Update 7/15/24: Available again.
Update 3/3/24: Available again
Update 2/11/24: Available again at $50/5k MR points. Hat tip to reader Davis
Update 2/15/22: They’ve lowered this now to $30/3k instead of $40/4k. At that rate you’d be better off doing the Swagbucks deal which only requires a $5 trade.
The Offer
- Rakuten is offering $40 cashback (or 4,000 Membership Rewards points) when you sign up for Coinbase and trade a cumulative amount of $100 within 6 months.

Our Verdict
I don’t personally trade crypto and don’t necessarily recommend crypto as an investment strategy. Some people like putting some amount of money in crypto or like doing the Coinbase freebie deals, so this is a good way of getting a bonus along the way.
Easy-ish win for those who don’t yet have a Coinbase account. We’ve seen $30 from Swagbucks before, and this deal is $10 better.
You can read the comments of the previous post for some tips of how to save on the Coinbase fees, and also how to trigger the $5 Coinbase bonus along the way as well.

Chuck The bonus is only 12.50 USD now.
Logged into my Rakuten account today and saw that they [Rakuten] have charged a $5 “Account Management Fee”.
Anybody else seeing this, too?

12.2 Account Activity. An Active Account means you must have shopped or started a shopping trip via the Company Properties within the past twelve (12) months. Except where prohibited by applicable law, if you have not shopped or started a shopping trip via the Company Properties for more than twelve (12) consecutive months, Company reserves the right to debit your Account balance five dollars ($5.00) per month (“Maintenance Fee”) to recover the cost of account maintenance in its normal course of business until you reactivate your Account by shopping or starting a shopping trip via the Company Properties or until your account balance is zero. If your account remains inactive for more than thirty-six (36) consecutive months and the balance in your inactive account is or becomes zero, Company reserves the right to close the Account permanently and cease to maintain your Account records and Program access. Maintenance Fees are nonrefundable, but will not cause your account balance to become negative, and will not cause you to owe money to Company.
Whoa…never knew that, thanks. Sound like clicking through on any random shopping link should work to hold it off…
” … but will not cause your account balance to become negative”
This is not true. My account balance is Negative 5 (-$5) when I checked, because of that fee.
What will happen after that?
Darn I’m doing Swagbucks version for $40. I bought and sold $10 of bitcoin and got $10.56 after fees including the $3 wheel gift. I just did surveys for three hours and got $9.29 lol. Imagine how much a tweaker could make.
Started in 2014 with airline miles…DoC was my go to blog in 2015-16… sold all airline miles in 2017 and bought #bitcoin at $1000 and the rest is history… a cross over that I never imagined… 😀
$50 offer is back up now.
Nvm
Rakuten offer up to $60 at the moment.
$12.50 Cash Back now…
Also you can DL the coinbase app and there is about $30-40 worth of “learning rewards”… jump through a few hoops (no money investment, just time) and get some strange cryptos (vera etc) then convert it into BTC or USDC. So after the $100 deposit you get $50 rakuten bucks and about $50 crypto rewards. Not bad
Signed up. Where did you guys get the chance for the wheel spin?
It can take up to a few days for Coinbase to allow the Spin the Wheel. The Rakuten bonus doesn’t track well, so get ready to file a cashback missing claim. Rakuten was awesome at getting the bonus in though.
Thank you so much for the response. Merry Christmas!
