Rakuten In-Store Cashback: Get 10% at CVS

Update 10/7/24: 10x at CVS, max $5 per transaction. There’s also 1x at Lowe’s, Food Lion, Stop&Shop, Giant.

The Offer

  • Rakuten in-store cashback is offering 15% at CVS and Macy’s.

The CVS deal is limited to $5 cashback, up to three redemptions.

The Fine Print

CVS:

  • US stores only.
  • Maximum Cash Back per qualifying transaction is $5.00.
  • Maximum of 3 redemptions per Cardholder.
  • Offer not valid at locations in US territories. In-Store offers not valid for online purchases and cannot be combined with other offers. Offer not valid for gift card purchases. Debit card purchases must be processed as credit to be eligible for Cash Back. When using a debit card, do not enter your PIN. If you add the same merchant on more than one rewards site or platform, you will only receive rewards through the most recently added Offer. Once you add an Offer, you may make qualifying transactions for up to 1 hour after initial redemption before needing to re-add the Offer. An added offer that has not been redeemed will automatically expire 75 days after it is added or on the date the offer itself ends, whichever is sooner.

Our Verdict

There are many other Rakuten in-store cashback deals. CVS is always interesting.

Deal History:

  • Update 8/11/24: 15x back at CVS and Macy’s. Not sure what the limit is this time.
  • Rakuten in-store cashback is offering 15% at CVS and 5% at Lowe’s.

Tip: Those looking to maximize discounts further can stack this with in-store or digital cpns along with using a high return CC at checkout. Additionally, sign up for their txt msg can get you nice Extrabucks perks to your CVS Extracare acct. Activate in comms preference settings only if you haven’t already and don’t mind getting txt 2-4x per week.

Rakuten clawed back my GC purchases, FYI. I won’t be doing GC with Rakuten again in-store CVS

You can register a Vanilla GC with Rakuten for these instore CB offers, but you have to run the transaction as CREDIT in order to get cash back. I ran it as DEBIT and didn’t see any rewards in my account, then I saw the detail about debit cards.

(Why am I using a Vanilla GC instead of a cb or points credit card at CVS? Because I have a VGC that cannot be used online and I’m buying discounted/promo GCs at CVS to drain this thing.)

Rakuten is offering 10% CB at CVS today up to $50 per transaction. However, be aware of my warning in this comment before going hog wild: #1942352 .

I highly recommend adding a small item to gift card purchases so the total purchase does not end in .00 or .95, or multiples of .95.

Good advice not to go hog wild.

Rakuten has excluded gc purchases in the terms for the CVS offer for as long as I can remember but they did not always enforce it.

However, they recently added a passage to the terms that I bolded below, which is a little bit worrisome.

Interestingly, they are now offering $25 (rather than $5) per transaction, which is almost daring people to go against the bolded part of the terms.

“Terms and Conditions:
US stores only. Maximum Cash Back of $25 per qualifying transaction. Offer not valid for gift card or money order purchases, and will be subject to reward reversals. Transactions over $500, or multiple transactions exceeding $500 (as determined by Rakuten or merchant in its sole discretion) are considered fraudulent and will not qualify for rewards. Any such amounts will be subject to reward reversals. CVS stores inside Target stores are excluded. Offer not valid at locations in US territories. In-Store offers not valid for online purchases and cannot be combined with other offers. An added offer that has not been redeemed will automatically expire 75 days after it is added or on the date the offer itself ends, whichever is sooner.”

I saw that warning the other day but was still excited to get $75 back from the 15% offer, but then the clock hit midnight and it went to 5%.

I think I’m banned from Rakuten’s in-store offers. I tried 5 different cards from different banks and networks. None of them would link. Anyone else has similar experience?
