[Expired] Rakuten: Staples 2.5% In-Store Cashback

The Offer

Direct Link to offer

  • Rakuten has added Staples as an in-store cashback store for 2.5% back when you save the offer and use a linked card.

The Fine Print

  • Earn Cash Back when you shop with your linked card at all participating Staples stores.
  • Offer expires Dec. 31, 2021.
  • Terms and restrictions apply. Rakuten reserves the right to modify the Cash Back reward rate at any time without notice to you.
  • Limit of 1 redemption per cardholder.
  • Debit card purchases must be processed as credit to be eligible for Cash Back. When using your debit card, do not enter your PIN.
  • Offer not valid for gift card purchases. Cash Back from gift card purchases will be deducted from your Cash Back Balance.
  • Only US-issued payment cards are eligible to enroll and earn Cash Back. In-Store offers not valid for online purchases and may not be combined with other Rakuten rewards. US stores only. Offer not valid at locations in US territories. Offer may be displayed on multiple websites but is redeemable only once per qualifying transaction. If you link to the same offer on more than one site, your qualifying transaction will only be eligible for rewards or benefits associated with the offer through the most recently linked site. A linked offer will expire 1 hour after redemption. After such time the offer must be re-linked prior to your next purchase. A linked offer that has not been redeemed will automatically expire 45 days after it is linked or on the date the offer itself ends, whichever is sooner. Cash Back earned will be paid with your next eligible Rakuten Big Fat Check!

Our Verdict

It’s worth linking your Office Supply Cards with Rakuten in case you shop at Staples. The terms exclude gift cards from earning.

Interesting, my Rakuten app specifically says 0% when shopping in store. Hoping it just needs time to update.

Does Rakuten exclude gcs like Dosh does?

Bro, did you even read the post. It’s bolded in the fine print section in this post and reiterated in the verdict section.

You apparently don’t understand the question nor how Dosh works.

Fathiss If I remember correctly, the Rakuten cashback usually tracks, but sometimes, but not always, gets clawed back.

RM TY. Probably worth a try. Dosh with 90% probability but capped at $5, or Rakuten at (50%?) probability without cap. Rakuten wins out if the 50% is in the ballpark.

I’ve been shutdown by Ebates and it wasn’t pretty. This was back in the day of ODOM. It might be worth making a burner account but I don’t want to sacrifice my MR earning account.

JJ can you explain what you mean by MR earning account?

Stevenson Rakuten accounts can be set up to earn cashback either in cash or in Amex MR points. It’s your choice. People who travel a lot value MR points at more than 1 ccp, and so prefer them to cash. People who don’t travel a lot (mostly) prefer cash.

They enforce it by clawback

Mike they clawed back once and then they shut me down. This was Ebates but I’m very hesitant to try it with my MR account because that’s a big time point accumulator. I already have 500k MR accumulated over the past year that I don’t want clawed back and a shutdown would be devastating.
