Unless the IRS tax version prefills info, it’s not super useful as there as several ways to efile for free: https://www.reddit.com/r/tax/comments/lq5fcp/free_filing_options_for_everyone_not_income/
However, if 1099/w2 info is prefilled it would save people time inputting data. I’m all for more alternatives to paying intuit/hr block.
One flaw in the IRS creating it’s own tax filing system is they probably don’t have an incentive to get you back as much as you can on your taxes compared to something like Tubrotax. Think about it: It would benefit the IRS if you didn’t know about every deduction and credit available to you or ways to structure your income (particularly if you’re a business owner), so they’re not gonna tell you.
