The reddit upgrade post is interesting, definitely some things to think about. I find the comment about 75% of a hotel’s guests having ambassador status hard to believe (though the author did say this was one property). I think this varies greatly from place to place. I read an interview with the manager of the Hyatt Place Waikiki, who said that only 10% of the guests even belonged to the World of Hyatt rewards program. I am guessing in a business heavy area the dynamics would be much different, but 3 out of 4 guests spend more than $20k a year at Marriott?
The comment about being full on weekends and relatively empty during the week makes it seem like he must have worked in some sort of resort area as that’s not typical at all.
I’m with you on that NK3. Very hard to believe 75% ambassador. I recently stayed in a Marriott in Bangkok and they clearly advertise how many of each level have checked in. There was 1 ambassador, 5 Titanium, and 6 Platinum, (can’t remember if they posted Silver) the night I checked in.
I realize there are far less elites in Asian hotels than US, but 75%….c’mon man!
I often find persistence can help with an upgrade. Don’t be obnoxious but ask if there is anything they can possibly do to accommodate. After further checking they more often than not have a better option. But if you simply accept what they initially tell you, the chance of upgrade at that point falls to 0%.
Hah, leave it to Hertz to make customers send their credit card number and expiration date through email to get a status match.
Do yourself a favor and rent from National, from which you already get executive status with your AMEX Plat.
You 100% don’t need to do this, the article is misinformed there. I got automatically upgraded just due to having my platinum saved on my online account. Got the ‘you’re upgraded’ email automatically on Nov 1st and I haven’t used hertz in years.
I agree National is better still but Hertz footprint is far superior in my experience.
i would use national over hertz but it’s very consistent that no matter what dates i search for between the two companies, there’s at least a $100 difference where hertz is cheaper.
