The resort fee lookup website is cool. I make it a point to try to avoid properties that charge resort fees out of principle. The most ridiculous are properties located in cities that call it a “urban fee” or “destination fee”.
It reminds me of back when advertised airfare prices didn’t have all the mandatory taxes and fees built into the price.
If you want to avoid them on principle, it’s very good. But some of those fees you mention are $5 or less (one of them in Anaheim CA is even $0!), and even with those fees low those hotels can sometimes be less expensive than their competition. So if you’re just trying to save money, it isn’t as useful by itself, because it doesn’t show how the resort fee affects the typical rate at the hotel. In that case, it would probably be more useful to have side-by-side with some site which lets you check the rates themselves.
Still very worth bookmarking at the very least.
And even though it asks for a city name, it does search the surrounding area, which is very useful. I get similar results searching adjacent cities in a county with lots of cities next to each other.
Even if the fee is low and overall price is lower than a competitor I would still avoid them on principle. I don’t like to reward shady business practices.
