DEM Flyers is worth a follow — they also had the Virgin VS lounge news 4 days before Miles Talk.
These resort fees are criminal, all fees should be rolled into the cost of a room. Enough with the deceptions.
These fees are really bad in Las Vegas. You can avoid some of them by getting Caesars Diamond status through the Wyndham status match merry go round. Can also get a Mlife and Hyatt Explorist match along the way.
There is also a resort fee web site that explains how to fight back on resort fees, including contacting the attorney general of your state or the state where you stayed.
A Virgin lounge being open for only a three-hour early morning window is such an amazing benefit for Amex Plat holders!
If you want to see price including fees, usually going to the Australian version of a company’s site will work. Australia has a nationwide law stating all fees and taxes must be stated upfront.
airbnb.com.au is great, for example. Adjust currency settings to your local currency (e.g. USD). Suddenly all the “cleaning fees” and other garbage just gets rolled into the advertised price on list or map views. Makes deciding on a place much easier.
Awesome tip. Thanks for sharing
Excellent tip!
Resort fees have gotten INSANE – Atleast with Marriott they have. Prior to the pandemic less than 2-3 years ago – generally they were a grudge fee amount of somewhere between $20-30/night usually.
Now? I’m seeing $35 minimum going as high as $65/night. Absolutely. Fucking. Nuts.
On top of that – these places with resort fees ALWAYS have insane $30/night parking fees too. Since I have 2 kids, there’s no way around this, I can’t take ubers everywhere with 2 car seats.
So were talking as much as $90+/night in FEES before you even get to the base charge of the hotel room + taxes lol. Needless to say, I’m not staying in any resorts anytime soon. I honestly hope governments start clamping down on this shit
Agree! Needs to be similar to how airline fees got forced into offering the “total booking price”. Made the process so much smoother and transparent.
Hotel industry needs the same type of regulation.
Sounds like the Ritz near me. Great hotel but you’re $90 in the hole even before you consider the price of the room.
Never paid a resort fee in my life and refuse to stay at a hotel that charges more than $5 a night for parking
I hear you but staying at the Courtyard Ames Iowa doesn’t work for many people. Especially people who are not trying to be in Ames Iowa.
I Just read somewhere Marriott is being sued for charging resort fee and that they made $22M through the scheme. I guess they are now charging more to make up for the fees they had to pay to lawyers.
