- Someone Made a Fake Equifax Site. Then Equifax Linked to It. by NY Times. It’s almost impressive how incompetent Equifax really is, that is until you realize the data they are responsible for keeping secure.
- PayPal Overcharged Me – Are They Doing it to Others Too? by Miles to Memories. I’ve never noticed PayPal doing this, but I’ve also never looked for it either. Please report any datapoints you have over on that post.
- User on /r/churning received the $100 bonus on Charles Schwab checking even though they didn’t originally sign up for the offer. Just need to send a secured message and ask.
- United Will Roll Out Its New Overbooking Auctions By October 3 by View From The Wing. I think Gary’s article glosses over the issues of overbooking and somewhat understates the problem, but it’s still nice to see that United is implementing this new auction system sooner rather than later. I still say that the mandatory minimums are exceedingly low and need to be increased until we see proper reform by airlines.
I’m confused, How exactly was he overcharged?
The fee on the $18 transaction was $0.82 for the total. 14.02 was billed to his Paypal balance and the remainder is charged to his CC in addition to the fee for the transaction. The fee is based on the total amount of purchase.
In his test transaction he confirms that the fee on a $18 dollar transaction is $0.82 and that the fee on a $3.98 transaction is $0.42 which is correct. But he he bought $18 worth of goods not $3.98 and so the fee of $0.82 is correct.
The fee is only to be charged for a person to person transfer if a credit card is used. The fee should then be 2.9% percent of the amount charged to the credit card. PayPal charged the fee even on the PayPal balance portion as well (PayPal balance transfer is free).
Ah, okay I think see the problem here. His payment was classified as partially funded and so incurred the transaction fee.
Paypal balance transfers are free when the whole payment amount is made using the Paypal account balance. But on partially funded payments by a credit card the fee is charged to the whole transaction amount.
“The fee should then be 2.9% percent of the amount charged to the credit card.”
This is an incorrect assumption on his part. PayPal terms say “2.9% of the amount sent”, not “2.9% of the amount charged to the credit card.”
Equifax is just ridiculous. The guy who made the fake Equifax website made it specifically to show how easy stupid it was to use a non-equifax.com domain name for a website that millions will visit, and Equifax fell right in the hole.
It’s so bad that it’s impressive. I wonder if Equifax can survive this, the mess they’ve created is bad enough to disqualify them as a CRA.
When SW finally implements routes to Hawaii its going to make a played out destination even more expensive, can’t wait.
PP overcharged me too when I made a small sale on eBay about a month ago. My understanding is that their sale fees are 2.9%+ 30 cents, but I paid more than that. Since the sale was so small, the amount I overpaid was about 10 cents, so I didn’t bother.
I just made a purchase on ebay, login to my paypal account where my AE card is linked there, paid the remaining balance of $1.71 and found out AE shows $1.71 for the merchant and $1 from paypal for “merchant charge”, what the hell?
SW didn’t announce Hawaii at the Tourism Summit.. sad. But eagerly looking forward to Oct 25th Earnings and proceeding call on the 26th. Summer 18 schedule out on Nov 1.. adds up nicely
