I just tried booking a one-night stay in Manhattan in mid-August, and the 5.875% hotel room occupancy tax is still there along with state tax and the Javits tax.
Maybe the hotel didn’t update their booking system yet. Or maybe they want to scam you, although I think Hanlon’s razor applies.
Along with the rest of the international community, I am outraged that old-timey dictators are still arresting journalists.
