Reminder: Chase INK Referrals Going Down From 40,000 to 20,000

Originally posted 8/19/24, reposting 9/2/24 as this ends today

Here’s a reminder that September 2, 2024 is the final day we can earn 40,000 points for referring a friend to the Chase INK card.

We’re finishing now two golden months where we can refer friends to the Chase INK Preferred card for 100,000 points which can then be matched to 120,000 points via secure message; and the referrer gets 40,000 points.

That’s a total haul of 160,000 points between the referrer and the new member. I consider this to be from the best deals of all time. This will end on September 2nd (or possibly earlier if Chase pulls the 120,000 points INK Preferred offer).

If you have any Chase INK card you can refer a friend to signup for the INK Preferred card. And of course this 40,000 points bonus is useful for referring friends to other Chase INK cards as well. I’m highlighting here the INK Preferred option since that’s an excellent time-limited deal on its own.

The referrer can earn up to 200,000 referral points per INK card they possess. For example, I hold an INK Cash card an INK Unlimited card and an INK Preferred card. I can refer 5 friends to any INK card using my INK Cash referral link and earn 200,000 points. Separately, I can refer 5 friends to any INK card using my INK Unlimited card link and earn 200,000 points. Separately, I can refer 5 friends to any INK card using my INK Preferred referral link and earn 200,000 points. I’ll get a 1099 from Chase for the referrer bonuses if I earn more than 60,000 points from all my referrals (i.e. if I refer two friends and earn 80,000 points I’ll get a 1099 from Chase, even if I use different referral links for the two friends).

I think some of you might be interested, so here’s a couple of confirmed data points.
For the Ink applications submitted before 9/2/24 but approved after 9/4/24, I confirm that the referrer later received 40,000 instead of 20,000 points.
This confirms that Chase uses the original submission date to determine the referral bonus, not the approval date. (Not sure if this will change in the future, but for now this is what it is.)

Seems like it was harder to get approved. Referred p3 and p4 and they both got denied. Perhaps too many open cards with Chase

Also be sure to ask for match on Ink Business Preferred applications made through referral links. (Match 100K offer to $120K public offer.)

If you already have a Chase business card, you should already see the approved card when you login and can send a message about it.

I just did it for P2, but unfortunately signed the secure message using P1’s name. I assume this is a common error among us, but am I in trouble? Will Chase catch on and close the accounts?

Did this before, after they replied with “p2 must reach out” I started a new SM with P2 name and had no issue. A good lesson learned that I no longer sign with any name to avoid this issue.

Thanks for the reminder/bump. Was going to go for another CIU and match to 90k, but with the CIP 120k ending soon, we opted to go for another CIP.

I did the same today, ref from p2 for 100k CIP then request a match once I get it. Today was exactly day 90 for me, 2400 worth of travel, not bad for a holiday Monday.

Glad I applied yesterday!

Logged in earlier today 9/3 and the Refer A Friend/referral page mentions 20k for referrals now, same limit of 200k/year

Called for status and the guy asked me bunch of question about My business and why I am applying after already having the ink preferred and I am not eligible legible for another bonus . . Told me i will receive a letter about proof of business and business documents . I asked the rep if he can just cancel my application and he agreed . Very frightening

This is why I never call or send secure messages any more . YOu are just drawing unwanted attention to your application, reapplication and the type of business. if they want to approve or deny they will do it after sometime but calling and sending messages about offer match or approval doesn’t end well

So my husband got a mailer offering 120,000 points ($1200 cash back) for Ink Unlimited. If he did that then there is no way for me to get a referral bonus, correct?

Based on previous comments, if I did refer him for the 40,000 referral and he got the 75,000 SUB, then we should be able to get the offer matched to the 90,000 after the required spending, correct?

Thanks!

If you apply for the 120k CIU mailer offer directly, yes, you’d lose out on the referral.

But if you want to take a chance, apply with the 40k referral on the public 75k offer, and then ask to match the 120k match, with details/photo from the mailer, there’s a decent chance they agree to it…

I’ve asked for the 75k to 90k match several times earlier in the year, so that should be straight forward, based on the timing. Have also asked for the 120k match a few times (from originally 75k or 90k offers), and they just asked for the targeted mailer/coupon details, so you might succeed.

40k + 90k = 130k, so that’s preferable over 120k without referral. Might as well chance it.

Do keep us posted!

Personally I wouldn’t risk it especially if you’ve had more than one 40k referral because the chances are you would have to pay taxes on a Chase 1099 for your referrals, which would make the 130k vs 120k a wash.

Want to try IBP but not sure use referral or direct . referral you get 100k plus 40k referral but than 40k referral bonus is taxable for $400.
