RetailMeNot Cashback Feature (Similar To AmEx/Chase Offers)

Yesterday Miles to Memories had a post on a feature that RetailMeNot offers called ‘Cash Back offers’. For those not familiar, RetailMeNot is a cash back shopping portal. This cash back section of their site is slightly different though and akin to Chase or AmEx offers. You receive a fixed cash back amount for spending above a certain threshold. For example here are some of their featured deals:

  • Staples: $15 cash back for online purchases of $75+
  • Amazon: Up to $10 cash back on Home, Garden, Kitchen & Housewares ($5 for $40+ or $10 for $80+)

The minimum spend requirement needs to be met before taxes, shipping and other discounts. In addition each offer has it’s own terms (e.g the Amazon offer excludes gift cards and is locked to some specific categories). Cash back will become payable within 15-30 days. If you look at the Staples deal you’re saving 20%, whereas the next best portal is offering 5%. Unfortunately this isn’t a card linked program, so you can’t stack it with other portals but it’s still worth keeping an eye on to see if you can get a bigger discount by using this rather than a traditional portal.

I’ve used RMN cashback a lot in the past 6 months. Pay out was relatively quick (within about 3 weeks), deposit direct to Paypal, tracks pretty well, and had customer service follow up on a missing one and they fixed it properly within a few days.

The cash back on some retailers can vary from day to day. I’ve seen some very lucrative ones like… $10 cash back on $20+ order on Macy’s. I’ve even been able to use coupons that are not on their website and it still post (YMMV though).

For those wondering the same thing as me for Staples: “The Minimum Purchase Amount is after discounts/promos are applied, and before tax, tip, fees, and any amount used to purchase gift cards or Excluded Items.”

What about purchasing VGC? I know often times the T&Cs say it is excluded but YMMV. Any one have DPs on this or shall I give it a go?

Haven’t tried it but it says “Excludes gift cards” on the Retailmenot offer page.

This is not like AMEX Offers or Chase Offers. It’s exactly the same as a portal site except instead of percent back it’s structured as “Spend $X get $Y back”.

I’ve used it a few times. Tracks fine and payouts are quick (confirmed and paid within 2-3 weeks). MUCH shorter than other sites.

I received a $100 refund recently from them for an HP computer costing $999. No hitches and according to schedule. Was a good experience.

RetailMeNot used to have coupon codes that people posted. It was a play on the “BugMeNot” site where people submitted junk logins for websites that forced registration. It was a middle finger to retailers for the benefit of consumers. Over time both sites caved and are now useless. I miss the glory days.
