Rite Aid to Transition Loyalty Program in 2018 to ‘wellness+ Bonuscash’, Remains Plenti Member for Redemption

The website iheartriteaid.com got hold of a memo being sent out to Rite Aid employees indicating that loyalty deals at Rite Aid will transition from earning Plenti points to earning ‘wellness+ Bonuscash’ beginning December 31, 2017. The memo is clear that Rite Aid will continue to be a Plenti partner into, and thus it will still be possible to redeem Plenti points at Rite Aid.

The memo isn’t 100% clear that there won’t be any opportunity to earn Plenti points at Rite Aid, but the implication seems to be that all deals will transition from earning Plenti points to earning wellness+ Bonuscash points.

Presumably all of the weekly Plenti gift card deals will transition to the new program as well. These new Rite Aid points are less enticing than Plenti points since redemption will be limited to Rite Aid itself, not Exxon, Macy’s, etc.

It’s become increasingly clear that the Plenti program is on it’s way out the door; they’re discontinuing the Plenti credit card, many partners are leaving completely at the end of 2017, and now Rite Aid is transitioning their loyalty program away from Plenti as well.

  • Am I the only person who likes Plenti points? Rite Aid has had some fantastic deals with Plenti points. Unlike their competitors (CVS and Walgreens), their bonus program doesn't have a short expiration date. And of course, being able to earn and use points elsewhere is another plus. I hope this new program at least retains the two year redemption window.

    • Plenti points are definitely better than the CVS and Walgreens bonus programs, but Rite Aid is just one part of Plenti and on the whole it just feels like Amex never bothered to build a successful coalition program. The earning rates and redemption options for Plenti just suck. I can earn one point per gallon of gas at Exxon? Greeaatttt. I can get 1 point for every $10 I spend at Macy's. Greeaatttt. 1 point per $2 spent at Chilli's and Chill's Too? Yeah, it's all just kinda SAD.

Rite Aid is really the only good partner they ever had in that they offered compelling ways to earn a decent amount of points. It's not like I'm switching cell and insurance companies to earn really chintzy loyalty points I have to spend at Rite Aid or Macy's. Redeeming plenti points is pretty easy at participating retailers, but earning enough of them to care about is pretty hard.

The plenti card was kinda cool looking if they'd ever given it a decent bonus I'd have picked it up lol.

      • yeah but they constantly have good bonus points earning options if you take the time to add them to your account...

        • For instance on black friday I bought $1000 Exxon gift cards from Winn Dixie and earned 25x plenti points... equivalent 12.5% cash back.

(its days are numbered, the writing on the wall)

(Plenti points were already a "royal" pain to accumulate via Rite-Aid, as I learned black friday. First and likely last time I'll set foot in a Rite-Aid)
