The Offer

Direct Link to offer (login required, sort by ‘gift cards’)

  • Check your Safeway Just4U for a digital coupon to get 10x rewards points when you buy $50+ in Happy brand gift cards.

Looks like most/all Happy cards have a coupon, but you have to clip each one separately. There are also varying coupons for Uber/UberEats, Doordash, Gamestop, XBOX, and Domino’s and more.

The Fine Print

  • Valid through 12/30/20
  • Unlimited use

Our Verdict

Remember to save the offer first to your card before use. Looks like most/all Happy cards have a coupon, but you have to clip each one separately. Make sure to use a card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases.

Stacking potential for Happy Moments and Happy Her to get 10x Just 4U rewards and get free slices of cheesecake (Cashstar won’t stack). https://www.doctorofcredit.com/cheesecake-factory-purchase-25-giftcard-get-two-free-slices-of-cheesecake-12-18-11-30/
Whatever I don’t use at TCF, my BB&B sells HD gift cards for buying hardware. I don’t see a way to buy gift cards at home improvement since Happy Just Because, Holiday Favorites, and Giving Good are the virtual kind, not a merchant restricted Visa.

Hey Superman , I’m a bit out of the loop (stopped after last years BBB mail-in rebate fiasco), but what do you mean by your last sentence?

If I buy e.g. a Happy Her card at a Safeway store, I can take that giftcard to the BB&B register and pay for any “product” I want there.
What would be different if I’d decide to purchase a Happy Just Because card at a Safeway store, and take that giftcard to Lowes to pay for any “product” ?

Thanks for any pointers… 🙂

I’ll likely be following your lead. Last year, loaded up on discount Happy Her cards. HH stacked w/ Panera Bread & was extent of my success. Rest went downhill. HH stacked w/ TCF but free slices ended w/ lockdown. HH stacked w/ BB&B but qualifying MIR purchase was MIR ineligible. Only reason to consider buying $50+ HH again is the emergency escape hatch, can swap out leftover card value to HD for buying hardwares discounted between 13% (if buying groceries) to 20% (if buying gas). If $25 was 10x then buy $25 Happy Dining plus $25+ Lowe’s or something else, but they’re not, just $50 & up. I don’t see a way to buy GCs (gas station or Amazon) without those mentioned being merchant restricted Visa. If you find a Happy Father’s Day, yes it works at Lowe’s for 3P GCs, no it won’t get 10x at Safeway.

Having trouble reading your minds here, so setting time machine back further to include more data. Happy Father’s Day card (which most closely resembles Happy Guy card) has 16-digit Visa number printed on the back of a plastic card with magstripe. Every card you see featuring a home improvement store in the above-mentioned ad is a virtual e-gift card that you print out on paper. Autozone sometimes places a Christmas gift card rack in December, but Autozone is a paper card. B&N sometimes places a Christmas gift card rack in December, and B&N is a plastic card. I seem to recall an awkward experience at B&N where register prompted cashier to verify the last 4-digits on the Visa, which were there, matched, and worked, but cashier wasn’t completely convinced it was a Visa. Happy doesn’t autodrain at BB&B, so if looking to stack supermarket category or SUB/MSR with fuel reward points with Visa gift cards, then best to load Happy with $54.95, $105.95, or whatever are the fees there.

Thx for your answers, for me the relevant part is this tidbit:

“Every card you see featuring a home improvement store in the above-mentioned ad is a virtual e-gift card that you print out on paper.”

And can confirm about the draining at BB&B, but you can do split payment there (not relevant for this promo, but e.g. for current Simon’s one where its $10 off each separate $100+ Happy card). 🙂

Superman

don’t wanna make it too obvious, but would advise to check the current promo again at your local Safeway brand store.
There’s a physical card available which is included in promo and works at a home improv. store for 3rd party gc’s.

Also, Safeway got a separate coupon currently for 5x rewards on giftcards which stacks (valid till 24th).

With all the rewards I earned today, it’s gonna be some “Happy Holidays”… 😉

I also saw my Safeway carries a physical card which does not resemble image on clipped coupon, but may very well prove to be same item. With dual accounts, P1 can test $50 before P2 tries $500.
I was too exhausted from failed Bitmo issues and others beating me to raid BB&B of all their HD GCs. Tried asking if they’d get more stock but instead she retorted that there’s HD next door to BB&B which sells HD GCs, like I didn’t know. Returned to Safeway, didn’t buy Giving Good for 10x, didn’t see or find coupon for 5x, I straight bought HD card on autopilot for 2x and CC grocery category spend with projects stacking quicker than I can stack deals.
Where can 5x coupon be found? I left so many opportunities for free money on the table yet again. Win some and lose some, I lost to Bitmo, Happy, and Just4U this time.

About to head out for my second run; first to supermarket, then straight to home improv. store.
Once again, “Happy Holidays” to you… 😉

Lol, all gift cards excluding open loop and their own cards, but Lowe’s rack has peg tagged Albertson’s/Safeway gift cards, so “unlimited” possibilities if peg wasn’t empty. Headed to Lowe’s #2, not one peg empty except that one! DE/GE does the trick, every $4.95 gets $65 gas or $38 groceries. Jay - ⒿⒶⓨ 🙈 🙉 🙊 You turned my losing streak into a win!

Superman glad to hear its working for ya. 🙂

Some last tips that might help you:
– When registering online, one’s only restricted by effort as to how many J4U accounts someone wants (I got more than a dozen to spread out the Rewards on deals like this; load up when single-use VGC deals come around; and getting good personalized weekly coupons randomly)
– As you mentioned, I also pay the $4.95 out of convenience, but instead you could also do https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Safeway&ref=bl_dp_s_web_0 (hint: those purchases work with your Amz account balance)

Yeah, that other peg was completely full, but what am I going to do or buy with more of those ones? Waive the $4.95 fee duh! I initiated by buying 1st Happy with my discounted purchase from using 1 Point plus Amz bal, and was not expecting to come back full circle. I’m rofl now knowing the amount of mental effort you must have put into this.

What does DE/GE stand for?

Everyone is different, but this didn’t work for me without a big hassle. It isn’t the fault of DoC, it’s a glitch in the Safeway/Albertsons system. After I saw the 10X points had not posted I literally had to stand by the manager’s desk for 20 minutes while customer service on the phone (some 877 number) had him usually on hold. At the end he didn’t adjust anything, they did. It appeared in my account about a half hour later. That’s fine, but I would not go through it again, even for 10X.

That sucks. Thanks for the heads up. I bought gift cards yesterday at Safeway under a 5 points per dollar Justforu promo and it worked fine.

Fwiw, this is perhaps the one issue that can be resolved from the comfort of your own home. It’s a hassle when their system misses clipped coupons which are dollar off instead of points, or cashier rings up $10 groceries and says total is $0 when receipt actually says total is -$48. That’s when the phone number sends you driving back to the manager’s desk to stand there for 20 minutes. I did, however, avoid the drive back one time with the phone number offering to fix a broken $ coupon with the equivalent in points. Some months the 1st comes earlier than it’s supposed to, but the phone number will unexpire and rollover unused rewards one time (per year?) and did so twice for me this year unprompted.

I believe this is a $50 minimum to get the 10x. I bought $50 last time and it was $75 minimum. 🤦‍♂️
