I did this awhile back but the 8X didn’t post to the account. Hoped the manager could make a manual adjustment (Kroger branded stores can do this with fuel points). But all he did was call Safeway customer service, wait on hold for at least 15 minutes (with me impatiently standing there wanting to move in to other things) and then they finally adjusted my account. YMMV, but I’m not interested in doing this specific promotion again.
I know a lot of people can actually use the fuel rewards but I don’t have a Safeway/Vons gas station within 20 miles of me.
As a DP: I have successfully purchased VGCs using the discounts from the rewards $1 off, $2 off, etc. Unfortunately, it is YMMV because it didn’t work a different time I tried. Even the $7 off a meat purchase actually processed for the discount on my VGCs since I didn’t buy meat. I don’t know if it was a temporary glitch but I wasn’t arguing.
DP #2 I had a $500 Happy GC that wouldn’t work at multiple locations and did actually have the correct balance on the card. When I called they issued me a check for $500. Maybe a Potential arbitrage opportunity With credit card points/cash and rewards as long as it isn’t abused. My situation was legit.
How do you redeem a Happy GC back to yourself?
Are there certain types that work best?

In Jewel’s MyMixx app, there’s also 10x fuel rewards on Best Buy, Xbox, Regal, Staples, Wayfair and Michaels gift cards. Another 10x coupon for Bath & Body Works, Children’s Place, JCPenney, Sephora, Macy’s, Spafinder gift cards. No minimum amount listed, exp. 3/19.
Same for Safeway. Domino’s was included as well.
