Our Verdict
Remember to save the offer first to your card before use. You won’t get fuel points on Visa/MC gift cards. Make sure to use a card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases or use Chase Freedom this quarter or any other card that’s running a bonus on grocery stores now. This version of the offer will work on the variable-load cards too (confirmed I think?).
Hat tip to reader Matt and Celia
I had this on a few J4U accounts and tried to buy with my 3 Freedom and 1 CSR account over the past few days. First attempt of a $500 card with a Freedom card was rejected. I then tried my CSR and it was also rejected but I got a text from Chase asking me to verify that it was me. Said yes and it was still rejected on a subsequent try. Around the same time, Chase called my home phone (I had it as the primary number, it turns out) and my wife verified the Freedom charge. Not sure if it was as a result of that but the Freedom charge finally went thru (using NFC, not chip, no idea if it was related).
After that I added a couple of Freedom cards to Samsung Pay and took a different physical card with me (I had intended to use it originally as the bill has the latest closing date but took the wrong card). My attempt to use that card was rejected on Friday but the card I had added to Samsung Pay worked (Freedom #3). Got home and had email from Chase asking me to verify the purchase attempt on Freedom #2. I said yes, it was me and they claimed that future charges would work.
Today I tried to buy a couple more at different stores. Freedom #2 was rejected on the first attempt (no email), but the Samsung Pay card worked again. Then a couple of hours later I tried Freedom #2 again and it worked! When I got home, I had email from Chase asking me to verify the charge, but saying that they had approved the purchase.
Now, I will admit in retrospect that at least a couple of the card purchases followed a small purchase, which is the signature move for someone who is using a stolen card (make sure the card works first, then go big). But I do not understand why Freedom #2 was rejected today after confirming that it was me trying to use it yesterday (and then accepted a couple of hours later). Also I had changed my profile to have them contact me at my cell phone on all of the cards, and they never did.
I guess I should be thankful that Chase is so security conscious, and at least I had enough cards that I was able to get all of the transactions done, although I will have to pay for most of them sooner than I wanted.
they disabled the GC option for new accounts. So those that wanted to take advantage like me now are hosed!
oh well
Can you clarify more? Are you saying you cannot “add” the digital coupon in your Just4U account?
yes the ADD nutton is no longer there for brand new accounts. The offer will not show up.
Usually gift card deals on Just4U disappear within 7 days of expiration. I have a fourth account that’s not new and it’s not there anymore because it’s within the 7 days.
I think that some offers also have a limited number of “clips”, as is true with most e-coupons.
I think their website is getting flooded by all you guys. Won’t let me check the transaction history online ( getting “Invalid Request Request validation failed. Please try again.” ). Luckily I am not having any problems registering and setting the pin, but I can only check the transaction history with their phone number.
I can’t even register, and register by phone is annoying.
I also had issues with the online system. Can’t register or check balance or anything. Thought something got screwed up with the transaction or activation or something and started getting worried, but after reading your comment I tried the phone number and luckily that works. It is pretty annoying to register by phone though.
Once I registered by phone I could check balance and stuff online.
I have had some issues recently checking the transaction history on a couple of VGCs. I think this is a Metabank issue. Not making me feel confident in buying more VGCs, let alone MGCs.
Safe to do this to get a sign up bonus with a BOA business card?
Those are 2 different things. I want to both receive all new comments and be notified of replies to my comments from this post. Isn’t that how it’s supposed to work?
Someone in the other post gave me this idea instead of selecting the bell each time.
Have you tried it on another post?
I had not. I just tried it on your latest post (TD Ameritrade – Up To $2,500 Brokerage Bonus). The same issue happened so it is definitely a bug.
I thought I had found a solution. On the “WA Only” post I subscribed to replies first and then comments. That worked.
However, through doing a test (with the help of
Brian C 🐕) I figured out it’s not actually a bug.
The purpose of the “new replies” subscription is for people that ONLY want to receive emails about replies to their comments.
The “new replies” subscription does not have the words “New Reply” in the email. It has “New Comment” just like any other comment so it has no use to me. The only way to get the “New Reply” email is to click on the bell each time. I will continue to do so.
If you get all new comments, wouldn’t you automatically be getting any replies as well?
There are 2 different types of emails we receive (New Comment and New Reply). For comments that are replies to my comments I receive the same comment twice (once as New Comment and once as New Reply).
So the way it works now I need to select the bell on each comment to receive it this way. If I forget to check the bell off I will only receive “New Comment” and won’t know that it’s a reply to my comment.
I don’t mind doing it this way but it would be better if the bug didn’t exist.
I also have a nice pile of $1 off any produce, frozen food, bakery, purchase.
I got a few of these also. Hopefully they keep that up.
FYi, those $1 off require a minimum $1 purchase to deduct. It used to be you could buy something cheaper and it would just be free.
This. I inadvertently “hoard” those things and have saved my ass during the weeks where people were panic buying and shortages everywhere.
Can anyone confirm that this offer works, as it should, on the $500 variables?
With all the grocery bonuses out there on credit cards now, this is practically a license to print money (or, at a minimum, get plenty of free hotel rooms). It’s a shame that it’s not a great time to be hanging out in grocery stores.
Confirmed – I got it on a $500 MCGC. It’s a nice stack with CSR.
It did
+1 DP that $500 variable worked.
I bought one morning and tried to liquidate but it shows :“debit convert to credit ” on screen even with the red button trick.it seems to be a lot of time once you did “red button trick” it would shows transaction cancelled by customers.
plus 4x AMEX rewards points (No safeway JFU points)
Great timing, pretty much everyone should have a grocery bonus right now!
