Sam’s Club will increase their membership fee from $45 per year to $50 per year, effective October 17, 2022. The higher-tier Plus membership will increase from $100 to $110. This is their first price increase in nine years, CNBC reports.
There are always stacking deals to get Sam’s Club membership for better-than-free. Makes the price increase somewhat trivial for most of our readers, but good to keep in mind.
Chuck From the email I got:
We are mindful of the financial pressure on wallets right now. So, this year’s renewal increase is on us. We’re giving back $5 in Sam’s Cash to Club members and $10 in Sam’s Cash to Plus members shortly after renewal.
FYI, This has zero impact on new memberships
So come Oct 17, new members (basic) will have to pay $50 not $45 right ?
Yes, for new memberships and renewals. (Sam’s will give the difference in Sam’s cash the first year for renewals).
Still sad when I see items *cheaper* per unit at Walmart vs Sam’s Club now….
I have Sam’s club membership. The issue is that I cannot find any quality material to purchase there. The nearest store is 100 miles a way and there are not too many things that can get delivered with reasonable price/quality vs Amazon/Costco. It might be a good place for gas or groceries (in store or pickup).
This price hike just means that too many members are freeloaders and not enough are paying for memberships to subsidize the freeloaders. The honeymoon period is over, and the gravy train is finally done passing out gravy. 🆁🅸🅿 🅰🅽🅾🆃🅷🅴🆁 🅼🅾🅽🅴🆈🅼🅰🅺🅴🆁
Or maybe they are increasing prices to continue to subsidize.
Even with the increase, savings on gas will still pay for the membership alone. Everything else is just gravy on top, especially with the Sam’s Mastercard
I feel that way about Costco. Just buying allergy meds and gas at Costco pays for the membership.
I have both but Sam’s is inconvenient due to the closure of some clubs. What was once 5 minutes away is now 30. I do make the trek every other month or so.
I live in Midwest. I like Sam’s as good or better than Costco. I think Costco is awesome, but it seems to get a lot of hype that isn’t warranted. I have both memberships and plan on dropping Costco at renewal.
Costco has lot of non-gmo, organic stuff which Sam’s doesn’t. Sam’s was good when there was Dosh cashback
IMO samsclub itself is worthless. I haven’t paid a membership fee in the last 2 or 3 years. Don’t plan on it. My current one expires near the end of the year. I’ll buy what I need before then, then wait 3-6 months until the next free membership promo rolls around.
Closest store around here (chicago) is very ghetto. It’s a 20-30 min drive to the one in the suburbs. Not really worth it. Costco has everything we need.
The best value is the ~$50 Plus memberships from offers like Groupon (and any CC offers stacked). The Plus membership is needed for free shipping and even free pickup. The base membership is really only useful if you shop in store only (and if you don’t spend that much, otherwise the 2% back from Plus is a better deal).
Lol
So now we can expect $50GC+$50 Amex statement credit. I think their CEO does not understand their marketing team.
