SAS EuroBonus: Fly 5-15 SkyTeam Member Airlines & Earn 10,000 – 1,000,000 Bonus Points

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • SAS EuroBonus is offering up to 1,000,000 bonus points:
    • Travel with 5 different SkyTeam Airlines – Get 10,000 Bonus Point
    • Travel with 10 different SkyTeam Airlines – Get 100,000 Bonus Point
    • Travel with 15 different SkyTeam Airlines – Get 1,000,000 Bonus Point

The Fine Print

  • For the flight to count, EuroBonus points must be earned on or used to pay for the flight. SkyTeam airlines that are available are found at SAS website.
  • You will be rewarded Bonus points (not Level points).
  • In case of retroactive registration of a flight, it has to be submitted by December 20, 2024.
  • Both regular and award trips (paid with points) count.
  • It is the operating carrier that counts.
  • If you book a flight where one segment is with e.g. SAS and the other with e.g. Delta, it counts as two partners for the challenge.
  • You will be notified of the outcome in January 2025.
  • You can participate only once, and you will be notified that points have been credited after the campaign.
  • SAS employees are not eligible to participate.
  • EuroBonus reserves the right to deny point rewards in case of misuse.
  • If you are not able to add your EuroBonus number into the booking, please ask the check in staff for help.

Our Verdict

There are 17 partners in total, so need to fly 15 of them to trigger the 1,000,000 bonus. Some people that have done some theory crafting on this bonus are showing a $3,000 minimum spend to pay for the flights. Personally this is way too much effort and pain, but hopefully at least one readers gives it a go.

If you’re interested in good discussion of the deal, look here:

No idea why there hasn’t been any link to this in DoC’s write up…

Comments on saw on other articles related to this challenge:

  • Of the 17 SkyTeam airlines, only 15 of them are mile earning partners (excluding Aerolíneas Argentinas and Air Europa, who are apparently only mile redemption partners) of SAS. So you would need to go 15 of 15.
  • Apparently flights on other SkyTeam airlines are having a tough time of crediting to SK and adding the SK mileage number to partner bookings.
  • KQ 5th freedom flight from BKK to CAN is a good way to get an otherwise out of the way airline.

Personal notes from me:

  • Not sure if I’m attempting it yet (because 1) SK miles seem to expire in 5 years, 2) not sure if they are useful as I live on the west coast, 3) it’s a lot of flying :D), but I’ve done some basic scheming. I’m from the Americas, so mainly planning on how to get the other 13 airlines.
  • AMS-JED-CGK is pretty cost effective way to get from Europe to Southeast Asia (~$500) on Saudia.
  • One of the things I had trouble with is the best route from CGK to BKK (for the KQ flight). This is because GA and VN don’t really have any flights that enable this, as GA has no flights to Vietnam directly.
  • Seems to me the best option is to reposition to the east coast and start the journey with the transatlantic (you could use Delta here but I already have a Delta flight separately planned). This is because TATL is cheaper than TPAC.

Maybe the most difficult part of this is getting the requisite visas in time for some of these countries, even for transit approvals, namely to/from mainland China, especially for US citizens, making China Eastern and Xiamen a bit more challenging. Thankfully, Aeroflot is suspended by SkyTeam; definitely not worth getting stuck in Putin’s Russia over this.

On October 8, user jamesbrownontheroad at FlyerTalk pointed out that SAS only recognizes 14 SkyTeam partners eligible for earning, so the million point offer may be impossible, aka false advertising.

‘I (would not) feel good’ to spend all that time and money flying around the world, only to have to sue the airline and probably still lose. That would ..’super bad’.

I’m going to Europe and Asia on a 2 months trip, so tempting to try.
What are the sas miles good for? Any sweet spots?

AF/KLM bought a fairly large stake in SAS after SAS exited bankruptcy protection. It’s not unreasonable to think that SAS might join Flying Blue in the near future. Now, though, the EuroBonus program is decidedly mid at best.

Mid? No cap!
