Our Verdict
Looks like only shoprite gift cards are excluded, so even Visa gift cards should work. Shoprite sells $100 VGC for a $5.95 fee so this is profitable if you need to make $20 in regular purchases anyway. Interestingly the Chase Pay deal has continued to work even though it’s expired. Alternatively make sure to use a card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases. Limit of one sucks and seems it will be enforced as you need to use a club card.

This may be YMMV but I was allowed to apply the $20 coupon towards the purchase of a $200 Visa GC (so came out to $186.95 with the load fee) which also triggered the $15 coupon to print on the receipt.
Did $100 VGC twice today. Checked out no problem with Apple Pay (using Amex Gold x4). The coupon comes on the bottom of the receipt. will see if the bonus MR points hit as x4. Thanks a lot, Doc.
Me and Fiance did 16 today ($320) combined with Freedom Chase pay 5% back (as we have 3 Freedoms to max out).
A few tips:
(1) I wouldn’t recommend using Chase pay unless you have to reach the $1,500. Most cashiers don’t know how to use it and it takes very long (sometimes 2-3min of physically scanning) until it actually scans.
(2) You don’t have to physically scan your Shop Rite price plus card, just type in the phone number associate with the SR PP card. (basically if you have 10 friends/acquaintance who ever shopped (signed up) at shop rite, you could type in their phone number and you will see if it pops up the valued costumer number (SR PP #) on the screen, if yes you’re good to use that account, if not try the next one 🙂
(3) When you redeem the $20 next week (11/25-12-01) all you need is the 6 digit code at the bottom of the $100 GC receipt which the cashier will manually type in BUT it’s only one redemption per price plus card number and I even think it has to match the specific PP card number which bought the $100 GC, so if you used a (random friends) phone number to buy the $100 make sure to write down the phone number on the receipt and use that same phone number when you redeem the $20.
(It looks like a lot of work but its not if you know what you’re doing and it’s fun if you shop anyway every week at Shop Rite).
I bought the visa gift card but the coupon did not print out. The manager said it was because the cashier did not scan my shoprite card. So he gave me a $20 shoprite gift card instead.
You got lucky there, they wouldn’t be so generous here in NYC.

I bought $100 Visa using chase pay (freedom) figuring the 5x points negates the fee. The $20 coupon printed on the receipt.
I just returned from SR. Same thing each year. I have 2 Price Plus accts. Bought a 100.00 Visa Gift card. Bought some of their deals..(Bounty 15 pack for 8.88) (Florida 52 oz. natural OJ..low sugar…99 cents)and $20.00 voucher prints on bottom of receipt. REMEMBER to save receipt..no other record of your 20.00 voucher.. Used the Amex Gold with 4% back in groceries. Did this 2x. Voucher good only starting this Sunday. And another deal starts Sunday also..15.00 voucher for 100.00 gift card purchase. That voucher starts the following Sun.. So deduct the 6.00 VGC fee you get 14.00 free food starting Sun and 9.99 free food the following week. great deal.
Yep. Did this. And I paid at the customer service counter because I haven’t always had success with Chase Pay at a register. Groceries and bird seed next week. LOL
My Shoprite only accepts cash/debit for GCs. YMMV. Not that I wouldn’t use the $20, but even that needs to be used within a week of getting the GC, and not even allowed on the same day.
And I thought NYC was the most MS-unfriendly place on the east coast. I’ve bought gift cards with credit cards and Chase Pay at three out of the four NYC stores (I’ve never been to the Bronx store).

Lots of stores say “cash or debit only for GCs”. I’m not going to waste my time.
I believe they also sell variable Visas up to $200. Remember, you have just one week to use the coupon, and it can’t be used to buy gift cards.
You go every day and make 3-5 orders for just over $20 and use one $20 coupon. You end up with free food/drinks/snacks for a couple months…
Good idea, but the $20 coupon is only valid AFTER the earning period is over, no? So you cannot roll.
No rolling. Buy the $100 in gift cards on 11/23 and 11/24. Use the $20 coupon the next week starting Sunday 11/25.
Works out to be 19.35% money maker if you use ChasePay to buy the gift cards. Chase gives you 5% rewards even on the gift card fee. I have found that it is easier to buy the gift cards at the customer service counter as some of the cashiers aren’t hitting the right buttons during the purchase and my ChasePay is denied. 🙁
