Shoprunner Introduces Minimum Purchase Requirement

We reported a few weeks back that AmEx was sending us all emails stating that soon some Shoprunner purchases won’t have free shipping with no minimum. Amex was mostly trying to cover themselves legally and they noted that they’ve added in the Amex Terms language that indicates that there could be a minimum.

At the time, there was no word from Shoprunner themselves what the minimum would be or which retailers would have a minimum. (The new minimum is unrelated to Amex and is the same for any Shoprunner member.)

Shoprunner has now updated their site to reflect the possibility of a minimum purchase amount. Additionally, they tell us that the following merchants have a minimum shipping amount:

• Drugstore.com, $25 minimum purchase amount.
• Beauty.com, $25 minimum purchase amount.

Here’s a quote from the FAQ:

Q: Does ShopRunner require a minimum purchase amount in order to qualify for ShopRunner benefits (free 2-day shipping and free return shipping)?

A: Some ShopRunner retailers may require a minimum purchase amount for orders on their sites to qualify for ShopRunner benefits. Any ShopRunner retailers that implement minimum purchase amount will be listed below in our FAQs and in the ShopRunner Policies.

Q: Which ShopRunner stores require a minimum order to receive free 2-day shopping and free return shipping?

A: The following retailers require a minimum purchase amount for two-day shipping and return shipping eligibility:

Drugstore.com, $25 minimum purchase amount. This means that you must spend at least $25 on ShopRunner eligible items in order to receive free 2-day shipping.

Beauty.com, $25 minimum purchase amount. This means that you must spend at least $25 on ShopRunner eligible items in order to receive free 2-day shipping.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the list with a minimum gets bigger over time and makes Shoprunner less useful.  For now, it’s just these two merchants.

Via Slickdeals, this new minimum only goes into effect tomorrow 4/30/15. If you have any drugstore.com or beauty.com purchases to make, you can do them tonight and still get the free shipping with no minimum.
