[Expired] Simon Mall: $1 Off Purchase Fees On Visa Giftcards Of $400-$500 (Fees Now $2.95 Per Card) [10/01 – 10/31]

Promotion has expired, view more Simon Mall promotions by clicking here.

The Offer

  • Simon Mall is offering a $1 discount on the purchase fee of Visa gift cards with a denomination of $400-$500. Important to note discount doesn’t apply automatically, you need to ask for it.

The Fine Print

  • Valid until October 1st until October 31st, 2018

Our Verdict

As far as I know no cards earn a category bonus at Simon Mall. But still useful for cards that earn at a high rate on all purchases or for meeting minimum spend requirements. Just keep in mind that it’s not a good idea to use American Express cards to purchase these

Just bought a few visa cards and they said this promo ended early… I think she was just an idiot though. Anyone else try recently?

Update: Promotion is still valid. The person that rang me up is an idiot, so I overpaid and they say they can’t refund me the $1 per card unless it was the same day.

Got a flyer with my purchase that might be of interest to me: Get a $10 Simon VGC for at least $50 worth of any combination of Domino’s; Red Robin, or Ruby Tuesday Gift cards. Limit one per transaction. 10/22/18-11/4/18.

Doc,

I was in the neighborhood…
Simon is running a promo…expires Sunday, Oct. 7th.

Buy at least $100 worth of Macy’s Gift Cards at Simon Guest Services
September 24-October 7, and get a $10 Visa Simon Giftcard.

Pretty good deal for resell or Christmas gift.

I would utilize an Amex card, but those darn RATS.

How do you send screenshots?

Cheers!

Is it true that the 10k daily limit includes fees, making the max number of 500 VGC buyable 19/day?

You can get 20 a day the 20th is a lower amount to allow for the fees.

One discount per transaction or can I buy multiple cards in a single transaction and have $1 off each?

The clerk at my mall said, when presented with my Citi Premier card, “we can’t take Citi cards, they fail every time.” I didn’t push it – but has anyone been told the same about Citi cards? (Also she was aware of the discount but it did not appear automatically on the transaction; she had to do something before the final swipe to add the discount.)

I bet it’s because of all the fraud alerts caused by Citi AA Plat churners making their first (or second or third…SMH Citi) purchase before putting the card in the sock drawer.

Tried it again, declined – the clerk predicted it. Called Citi, whose rep said that the merchant (Brea Mall in SoCal) has been blocked by Citi.

I just got a Citi Premier early last week. It fraud alerted every time I tried to spend $500+ at Walmart. I needed to keep calling Citi and they would assure me my account was cleared and I could make a similar purchase the next day. Next day I would try again and fraud alert, day after day. I am going to let it sit a month and try again to make minimum spend.

The new Chase cards I received haven’t had a problem at all. Barclay had a couple of fraud alerts as well, but at least I have been able to get through several purchases. Citi Premier must be really anal to fraud alert. Hopefully it is just during the first month.

My Simon mall does not allow mobile pay.

Clearly they are bullshitting? I am assuming you are able to use mobile pay, correct?

Thank you for contacting Simon Customer Service. The associate at Mall was correct, currently Simon does not accept any mobile payments at our Guest Services booths. It is something that we are looking into for the future, but at this time we are not accepting mobile payments.

YMMV. There are Simon Malls I’ve been to where they limit to $4000, fees included per person per day.

I’ve been to 3 and all are 10k per day. AFAIK it’s always 10k if you’re willing to fill out the paperwork and 3-4K without paperwork.

I have to fill paperwork if total over 2k. They used to told me maximum 19×500 card so 9.5k max.

Last time this was offered ( think was last December) it didn’t work in our local simon mall. They told me the dollar off was only for business accounts, not for individuals.

Business Accounts already get discounts though….I tried signing up for one because I do MS Biz Cards and have a real LLC, was denied for Biz Account because they said it’s for businesses buying lower $ amount VGC’s, not for people MS’ing is essentially what they said.

Can someone explain how this is profitable? Assuming you have a 2% card and can easily liquidate the card at WM, you’re still spending $2.95 + $0.88 for the MO and then you make $10 cashback? Are people actually scaling this for $6 per card? Seems like a lot of work, hassle, and risk (from your bank and credit card company) for $6. Thoughts?

It helps if you have say, a Minimum Spend that you need to hit to for a sizeable signup bonus. Allows a person to sign up for multiple cards at any given time without having to worry about organic spending

Simon GCs are mostly purchased to meet minimum spend to trigger a signup bonus for a new card account or a special bonus offer on an existing card account. Or sometimes to turn orphaned miles or points into a redemption. Most cards do not pay more than about 2% for Simon GC purchases.

Thank about it this way…

Say you have Chase Freedom Unlimited which earns 1.5x (along with another card that can transfer to Partners, CSP, CSR, CIP). Transferring to Partners like Hyatt you increase the value of those points. To me I personally value Hyatt points at 2 cents per point. So you’d multiple the 1.5x earned using FU by the 2 cents per point in value. Getting essentially 3% in value when using them at Hyatt, and a comparable rate for SW transfers too.

3% Back on a $500 GC is $15, and $30 for 2, because 2 equals 1 MO. You use $6.78 when when getting 1 MO with 2 cards.

So per every MO you profit ~ $23, usually people can to 2 MO’s per WM per day, meaning ~ $46 profit.

On top of that it helps a lot in meeting MSR everywhere except Amex without having to pay the much higher fees on Plastiq.

I did not understand how the 1.5x turned into 3% in your calculation.

If you are getting 1500 UR points per $1,000 spent and you value each UR point at 2 cents, that is $20 = 2%, not 3
