Singapore Airlines has sent out an e-mail about changes to the KrisFlyer loyalty program. There are two main changes that are being made, both go into effect on December 7th:
- You’ll be able to redeem miles for flights on Star Alliance and other partner airlines online or via the mobile app starting December 7th, 2017. They will also be adding a $25 or 2,500 mile fee for services rendered by any Singapore Airlines office or reservations hotline:
- Redemption ticket bookings
- Redemption ticket changes
- Redemption upgrades
- KrisFlyer membership services, including updating of passport details, adding or changing Redemption Group Nominees
- Changes are being made to the award chart
Miles will still expire 3 years after the date they are earned, regardless of activity.
Bookings Online & New Fees
This is fairly self explanatory. You’ll be able to make bookings for partner airlines online now, previously this wasn’t possible. As part of this change they are introducing fees when you don’t book online and require assistance either via phone or in person. Let’s hope this is actually true and it’s a useful Star Alliance award search tool.
Award Changes
Singapore Airlines is making changes to the Star Alliance Award Chart (their own award chart is not being changed and neither are non Star Alliance partners being changed).
There are any routes that are improving in price, but some are being kept the same. This is a true devaluation (airlines love to sneak a few positive changes in and call it an enhancement). First class is being hit the hardest, business second and then economy in last place.
Hat tip to Rapid Travel Chai
Dec 7 is here, neither app or their website works.
This current hemorrhoid wouldn’t hurt so bad if they just soooth the fuel surcharge fees on executive flights. Thats what stings the hardest when redeeming SQ miles.
Pretty glad they left North America to Hawaii unchanged, and being able to book online would be a big positive.
Any idea how the around the world ticket redemptions will be affected? Been saving up for 2 tix in first class but I may need to pull the trigger on some business class tix before it it becomes too high
I guess I do not see this as much of a devaluation because earlier this year they dropped the online booking discount and the new chart appears to reflect that
This one hurts, like a punch straight to the nuts. Seems like we get a new devaluation each week from different programs. A one first class redemption is going to cost half a mil in points/miles within 2 years.
