The Offer
- SoFi Money is offering new users two deals:
- Get 5% cash back on all purchases made within 60 days of account opening, up to a maximum of $100 back
- Get $75 for setting up a direct deposit
The Fine Print
- The offer is open to new Accounts opened between April 20, 2020 at 12:01AM PT and Jun 30, 2020 at 11:59PM PT and will be in effect for 60 days from the date your new SoFi Money Account is opened. Note that in most instances, after you open a new Account, it will take 5-10 business days before you receive your SoFi Money Debit Card and can begin making eligible purchases.
- Participation in the Program is open to new SoFi Money Members who reside within the United States, who open new SoFi Money Accounts during the Promotion Period.
- Most purchase transactions using your SoFi Money Debit Card are eligible for cash back under the Program. Certain merchants and transactions are excluded, including DoorDash, Disney+, Hulu, Netflix, Spotify, HBO Now, Amazon Prime Video, CBS All Access, Pandora Music, and Google Music. Purchase transactions with the aforementioned excluded merchants are not eligible for the Stimulus Multiplier 5% Cash Back Program, but may remain eligible for other cash back programs offered by SoFi. ATM, Bill Pay, ACH transactions, and purchases via check are not eligible for the Program.
- For each eligible transaction made within 60 days of the date your new SoFi Money Account is opened, SoFi will credit your account for an amount equal to 5% of each eligible purchase, up to a maximum of $100 during the Promotion Period (“Cash Back”).
- SoFi reserves the right to exclude any Members from participating in the Program for any reason, including suspected fraud, misuse, or if suspicious activities are observed. SoFi also reserves the right to stop or make changes to the Program at any time.
Our Verdict
It looks like transactions that earn 20% back are excluded from earning the 5% back. Previously we’ve seen bonuses of $100 from SoFi Money, or referral bonuses of $75/$25. Unfortunately referral links do not show this new 5% bonus so it doesn’t look like you’ll be able to stack it. You’ll want to spend exactly $2,000 to earn the $100 bonus. You can see what has worked for a direct deposit in the past by clicking here. This is a bit of a weird bonus because it’s a bank account bonus, but the $2,000 in spend makes it more like a credit card bonus. I’ll still be adding this to our list of the best bank account bonuses.

Opened 5/18/20
DD (employer): $500 on 5/29/20, $500 on 6/15/20
$75 Bonus: 7/30/20 “Money Promo Bonus)
Never received 5% cashback on purchases
I tried chatting with them about the bonus because I thought I only needed one DD, plus I wasn’t seeing the 5% back. The guy didn’t really know and said something like “I think it’s two direct deposits and you need to download the phone app.” Their bonuses seem a bit disorganized if you ask me.
I’m preparing to go to war against SoFi. Anybody have the terms and conditions for the SoFi referral of $75 bonus for two direct deposits of +$500 each?
They said it ended 5/31 but I swore the terms and conditions didn’t have that date in it when I signed up via referral. I literally signed up the day after but it still said $75 bonus and didn’t have that end date. I’ll be posting this in multiple SoFi threads to see if it triggers anybody’s alerts.
Don’t bother with SoFi live chat, secure message via some secure website only viewable in browser, or official open ticket reply via email. It seems “Email the CEO” via desktop browser only gets the best result with a personal CSR handler and not a robotic CSR that copy/pastes and makes up random things and sometimes contradictory information too.
Beware, PUA DD will not automatically trigger the $75 bonus for two direct deposits of >$500. CSR said they coded as deposits even though they are real DDs. I’m in the process of providing evidence and getting manual credit.
In addition, they are trying to only give me $25 (current bonus) and NOT the $75 (bonus I signed up under a while ago). I signed up in early June and the terms said I would get $75, however the CSR said that bonus expired in May even though it doesn’t say that anywhere and referral links were still active! This is confirmation that even though you sign up under a referral link, SOFI IS SLOW TO UPDATE so they may be expired. Proceed with caution with SoFi. I can’t wait to close them out and churn their Invest bonus.

Missing $75 bonus still
There have been very few DPs of people successfully stacking the bonuses. I never had confidence in this “double” promotion. .
I just double checked your dates. You are still within the DD bonus payout within 10 business days so you aren’t out of the game yet.
Even if it doesn’t pay out automatically, I still believe you have a fighting chance by complaining and with proof of sign up offer, which some folks have provided images in the comments.
I am going to submit a ticket with Sofi Money about an issue with my bonus. they are asking for this info: full name and email address. can someone with a sofi money account that was opened before Feb 2020 provide this?
Davis Whatt…you need someone else’s name and email??
If they are confirming information so they can match it (which I believe is the case), giving them a different referral you signed up under may bring bad news. I would try to find the original Referer.
I really have no idea whose referral I used. I got it from this site. is there a way to check?
I don’t think so. If that’s the case, you’ll just have to take the chance with another random Referer who is willing to give you their info. Good luck.
I don’t seem to be getting the 5% cashback. does anyone have a screenshot of the terms and conditions? I signed up before june 16. thanks!
I took a PDF export. here it is https://www.scribd.com/document/465813624/SoFi-Bonus
@confetti22, can you please re-post the screenshot? SOFI refused to give 5% if customer signed up after May 15th.
Did anyone open an account on or after May 16 and get 5% cashback? They are telling me the promotion ended on May 15, and refusing to pay any cashback. I opened an account via the DOC link (which was working, and described the 5% cashback promotion) on May 16.
Stupid SoFi terms are never clear and they always update late. If you saved the terms, you may have a case since that’s what you signed up under. I would fight them tooth and nail. I signed up 6/2 and was never going for the 5% but now I know for a fact I won’t even try. I was originally going to do some test debit purchases/P2P. I signed up under the $75 for two $500 DD referral.
Same here, I signed up on May 18 using the DOC link. SoFi page showed 5% cashback promo during the registration. Now they say it ended on 05/15 before I signed up.
Update. Reached out to support on 06/10, followed up on 06/18, they said they were looking into it. I didn’t hope for anything to happen until I got an email that there was a support ticket created today 06/26, checked my account and found $100 there 🙂
06/02 real DD from job
06/05 $2000 purchase
06/06 purchase posts $100 cashback posts immediately
No $75 DD bonus yet (06/08)
Does anyone know if Sofi will 1099 for the $100? It feels like a refund of a purchase like a credit card, but I am thinking it’s a bank account so technically interest.
Did your terms state one or two DDs? I know referral terms are two DDS required but I’m not sure what you signed up under.
Forgot to add, PNC doesn’t send out 1099 for rebate bonuses such as this one, however you never know. IMO rebate shouldn’t count since they are similar to CC spend bonuses. But my opinion doesn’t matter to IRS.
From their FAQ: While bonuses are normally considered income (check with your tax advisor), bonus amounts of $599 or greater in a single calendar year may be reported to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as miscellaneous income to the recipient on Form 1099-MISC in the year received as required by applicable law.
Cash back and Bonus are not the same thing.
