Some Safeway-Affiliated Stores Switching Gas Rewards to Exxon

Some Safeway affiliated stores (Vons, Randall’s, Albertsons, Tom Thumb, Acme, Jewel, Shaw’s) are switching their gas rewards from being redeem-able at Exxon instead of Sunoco. I’m unsure which store chains this effects, possible options: Safeway, Vons, Randall’s, Albertsons, Tom Thumb, Acme, Jewel, Shaw’s. It may also be area dependent. And it’s possible it affects all of them.

Gas Rewards will continue to be available at Sunoco through October 31. Beginning September 27th (or October 4th in other chains/areas), points will be redeemable at Exxon/Mobil.

If anyone sees a web link with more details on the change, please let us know in the comments.

As an aside, some people are able to use Safeway ‘Gas Rewards’ on groceries as well, details here.

Saw a sign saying Exxon was the new home of Acme Gas Rewards at an Exxon station in the Philly suburbs this weekend. Still doesn’t change the calculus for shopping at Acme (overpriced, cramped) relative to Wegmans or Costco.

I saw a sign outside a Mobile gas station that said we take safeway points now in Alexandria, VA.

Also saw the same sign in southern Maryland. Looks like you need to choose between Exxon mobile rewards or Safeway at the pump. Use Safeway points is not an option yet in the speedpass app which just came out with a new version today.

Well the sign clearly states it’s an acme market.

I wonder if this stacks with the Exxon rewards (formally known as Plenti).

Sunoco redemption are only available in Northeastern stores around DC and Maryland area I think. All other areas are partnering with Chevron and Texaco

Jewel (Midwest) partners with Shell, no notice that it’s changing. Would much prefer Exxon.
