Historically Chase would simply decline card applications when the user is not eligible for a signup bonus due to the 5/24 rule or the 48 month rule. A underwriter for the bank reports on Reddit that on June 13th Chase made a change and will now approve Sapphire Reserve and Freedom Unlimited cards even without a bonus. Customers who are ineligible for a bonus will get a prompt before submitting the application that asks if they’re okay to proceed without the bonus.
Useful to know about this new option. The change isn’t hugely helpful to most of us since we’d typically upgrade/change an old card to a Sapphire or Freedom card, if desired. We typically wouldn’t sign up for a new card without a bonus since it would add to your 5/24 liabilities and can temporarily lower your credit score.
in my case, i am under 5/24 rule. but when i applied for Chase personal credit card. i got rejected. the letter shows number of recently opened accounts on credit report. but i was under 5/24. is anyone know what’s going on?
The original post on Reddit was deleted.
My sister referred P2 for CSP during elevated offer. He was approved, but no SUB tracker on account after 10 days. She called Chase and they said he was approved but not eligible for the SUB and a letter would be in the mail explaining. He has never had a Chase product. No letters or notices in the account at this time. Planning to have her call recon and see what’s going on. He is eligible, so hoping it’s a mistake.
Sometime the tracker does not appear in your account, but if this is the 1st CSR/CSP or you did not received SUB within 4 years, then you are will eligible for the SUB. Mine sometime does not show up, but when you hit that minimum spending, they will give it to you.
Tried to apply, way above 5/24 and didn’t get a prompt before applying and then denied.
This just happened to my husband, but he claims he didn’t get the pop up and the only reason we got the card was for the SUB. Now he used up at 5/24 spot for nothing… But the reasoning for the denial doesn’t make sense. He has never received a SUB and he’s at 3/24 for cards and his credit score is 790. We are trying to call the reconsideration line though..
Is this a credit card for low credit score customers
No, CFU needs 670+ CSR needs 740+
no, but if you get a checking and regularly deposit your income into their checking, there’s DPs of Chase overlooking bad credit for a well established high income deposit history
Chase seems to be calling it AWOP (Approved WithOut Premium) on the frontend. They have been messing with the experiment, so it is not guaranteed to trigger for your application. When this article was published, it was disabled completely for Sapphire cards. Tonight it changed to a 50/50 chance of being offered.
No hard pull happened for me even though AWOP was disabled for my application. It is just a hard deny. Recon has no idea about AWOP it seems.
Also worth noting: Both the Preferred and Reserve appear to be eligible for AWOP if you apply via the public links. There is also language for the Chase Marriott cards to trigger AWOP if you have the Amex Marriott cards, but I didn’t see it activated for those yet (didn’t look much either).
Bring a bucket and AWOP
This is really good and surprised that it hasn’t been done before. Sometimes you just want the card and the accompanying mutipliers and don’t really care about the welcome bonus. This is especially true if you have had the card before and canceled it for whatever reason and want the card again for the benefits that it has.
This makes so much more sense from a business standpoint. No change for me, but why continue to turn down free AF and/or swipe fee income, especially since someone who’s willing to forgo a sign up bonus is likely not a churner?
People getting ineligible due to the 5/24 or 48 month rules *are* churners.
What is Chase gonna do next? Add a 5 dollar monthly credit to Wine.com?
Probably a 5 dollar credit to CVS so we can get some more lube when they have their way with us later this year.
