The value of this offer may be reported to the IRS and the customer is responsible for any federal, state or local taxes.
- Limited time offer. Checking Bonus offer is for customers aged 18 years or older who successfully open a new OneWest Bank Checking Account at any branch of OneWest Bank, a division of CIT Bank, N.A. (“OneWest Bank”) between
July 8, 2020 and December 31, 2020 and satisfy the following requirements:- Personal Checking Account with a minimum deposit of $500 in new money and maintain an average balance of at least $500 during the first 90 days following account funding; or

Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees

This account has a $5 monthly fee. This is waived if you meet any of the following requirements:
- Maintain a $1,000 monthly balance
- Elect to receive eStatements
- Be 55 years or older or be under the age of 18
Premium Checking Account ($250 Bonus)
This account has a $10 monthly fee and is waived when you maintain a $1,000 monthly balance.
OneAccount Checking ($300 Bonus)
This account has a $25 monthly fee, this is waived when you maintain a $10,000 monthly balance
Early Account Termination Fee
You need to keep the account open for six months otherwise you will forfeit the bonus.
Our Verdict
I think the best account to open will be the premium checking account that is required for the $250 bonus. The OneAccount for the $300 bonus requires $10,000 in there to keep fee free and keep in mind you’ll need to keep the account open for six months. I don’t think the extra $50 bonus is worth doing that. We’ve seen the $250 bonus before but it required a direct deposit. We will add the $250 bonus to our best checking bonus page, although please consider if it’s really a good idea to open an account in branch currently.

looks like the deal hasn’t been renewed…
I get a 404 message when going to the bank website to look at the terms of the deal…
Hi, Dick, thank you for your comment. Please note that this offer has expired, but to learn how we can help you reach your financial goals, please call us at 877-741-9378, or check us out at https://www.onewestbank.com/. Thanks and have a great day.
Debating whether to try opening this based on my Chex numbers. 6 accounts in 6 months, 12 accounts in 12 months, 22 accounts in 24 months. Any recent DPs with similar numbers?
Hi, zeer0, thank you for your comment. To help with your query, you can call us at 877-741-9378. Thank you.
Anybody used a credit card for the initial funding?
In branch, normally CC funding is going to be a Cash Advance. Feel free to prove me wrong, but I’ve tried it at other banks with a Zero CA limit and they tell me it didn’t work. Then I pull out the checkbook/wallet.
Hi, Lakers, thank you for your message. OneWest Bank doesn’t accept credit cards as a deposit. You can fund your new account in the form of cash, check or wire transfer. To learn more, check us out at http://ow.ly/fLDS30rox2Q or talk to a banker at 877-741-9378. Thanks and have a great day.
I just wanted to make sure I am understanding correctly. If I received the bonus in 2020, I can get it again in 2021 after 12 months has passed from receiving the bonus. The time I closed it in 2021 does not matter, correct?
Hi, Dick, thank you for your question. The enrollment period is from the date the account is opened until the reward is credited and the 12-month restriction starts after the enrollment period ends. For more questions, you can talk to a specialist at 877-741-9378. Thanks and have a great day.
I have 7 inquiries since ApriI 2020. I wonder what my chances are.
Is there any restriction on previous accountholders (i.e., ineligible if you have had a OneWest account or received a bonus within the past X days)?
There’s a 12-month washout between receipt of bonus and opening a new account. BTW, I see the flyer in their branches mentions a June 30, 2021, end date for the promo.
Hi, 02nz, thank you for your question. The enrollment period is from the date the account is opened until the reward is credited and the 12-month restriction starts after the enrollment period ends. For more questions, you can talk to a specialist at 877-741-9378. Thanks and have a great day.
Great deal, and nice people to deal with in branch. Better hurry in order to improve eligibility chances for the next promo – if there is one. The takeover by First Citizens should start taking effect by next January. And a quick scan of First Citizens at DoC indicates their promos aren’t as easy.

Not sure if there any differences besides the 30 trees?
I’m not seeing where it states the account must remain open for 6 months?
Hi, John , thank you for your comment. The terms on https://www.onewestbank.com/bonuschecking indicate that the bonus payout will take place within 60 days after all requirements are met. The checking account must remain open and in the same product type to receive the bonus. If you have further question, please talk to our specialist at 877-741-9378. Thanks and have a great day.
Past promos stated: If Checking Account is cIosed by the customer or OneWest Bank within six months after opening, the value of the bonus may be deducted from account at closing.
I could speculate they removed it because it’s not enforceable. Also, because I know people avoid this clause at other banks by zeroing before closing. YMMV – best of luck!
You’re not seeing it because it’s not there. Nowhere in the offer does it state that the account must remain open for 6 months.
