Southwest is now allowing you to extend expiring travel funds for six months, normally this comes with a $100 fee but this is being waived. Southwest has sent out an internal memo stating:
Knowing that our schedule will soon be extended past the 2022 holidays, Customers may be contacting us to use their funds that may not have expired yet but will expire before they want to travel. In preparation for the anticipated requests we will be receiving, the decision has been made to temporarily offer our Customers additional flexibility.
Temporary Additional Flexibility – Effective June 1, 2022
$100 will not be deducted: For all Customers who contact us between June 1 and December 31, 2022, letting us know they are unable to use their funds during the RTF validity period, we will issue a Southwest LUV Voucher for the full value of the RTF, which means temporarily, you will not deduct $100 per our normal GOG exception.
No longer required to contact us after the expiration date: Customers do not need to wait to contact us after the RTF expires. Between June 1 and December 31, 2022, If Customers contact us to advise they are unable to use their funds before the expiration date of the RTF and they do not want to wait until after the expiration date to request a Southwest LUV Voucher, we will force close the RTF and issue the SLV immediately. Please explain to the Customer that the SLV will be valid for six months from the issue date.

Has anyone had any luck going back to travel credits that expired in 2021 and getting them reissued under this program?
since the announcement on june 1, did any folks happen to let TFs expire, contact a Rep & got a conf that it could be extended w/o fee, or could wait til 12/31/22 to ask for extension? in fact, no longer found the offer posted on SWA site
Anyone know of a good way to combine LUV vouchers? I have one for $5.60 and one for $10. Seems like you can only use two at a time and then must use another form of payment for the taxes.
Anyone do this already and can report how long it took to receive the LUV voucher?
Southwest Customer Service said it would take 20-25 business days by email to receive a travel voucher with extended travel dates.
I requested 5 of them on June 9th (I think; was close to that date; all at the same time/same agent). One of them came in on June 20th, three of them came June 23, and one is still outstanding.
Can you extend a luv voucher?
My travel funds are due to expire in December… I assume I should wait until a few weeks before they expire (maybe in November) to ask for this, so that the Luv Voucher is valid through Spring 2023?
Yes. If you request them now, they’ll only be good for 6 months from the date you receive them.
Love southwest! I wonder if they’ll eventually make it so that as long as you book by voucher/travel fund date then it’s valid. Sometimes it’s hard to travel by expiration date

Say I have funds expiring on 9/15, but I call Southwest on 12/15 – they will issue me a new credit that is good until 6/15/23? Or do I need to call prior to expiration?

This hasn’t been my experience with this new offer. The LUV vouchers expire 6 months from emailed issue date. I had travel funds expiring June 11th. I requested the voucher June 9th. Received LUV voucher via email 6/20, and it expires 12/20.
I can confirm this. I called about my voucher expiring first week of sep and they issued me a new luv voucher, which expires 6 months from issue date… so now it expires in December. If I had waited I could have likely gotten exp extended closer to March, which would have been nice to cover taxes for my annual Mexico trip in February. Rats.
