Our Verdict

Southwest has a pretty good cancellation/refunds policy, depending on the fare you’ve booked you’ll either receive a credit towards a future flight(Wanna Get Away) or cash refund (Business Select or Anytime – returned to credit card if you used one). It’s always worth checking to see if your flights have fallen in price when they offer these types of sale. This one is bigger than the weekly ones they normally have. Keep in mind award flights are tied to the cash price of a flight.

What is the best way to figure out the price paid for existing reservations?

EDIT: Is it any different for flights paid with points to see how many points were paid?

On Regular Computer
1) Login to your southwest.com account
2) At the top of the page click ‘My Account’
3) Scroll down to “My Flights”
4) At the bottom of the upcoming flight click ‘Change Flight’
5) On the next screen select the flight(s)
6) Click ‘Select New Flights’

It will then give you a listing of the available flights and list the difference in either points or dollars. If the flight is lower, simply click it

Doesn’t seem to work if you have a Companion Pass.

So I see a 25$ difference in my flight ticket which i booked more than a month back(Wanna Get Away). Do I call them and ask for a refund. Or do I just cancel the existing ticket and book a new one?

Just change the flight to the same flight with the new fare. You’ll get the difference as a credit.

Although it doesn’t matter for WGA fares and points bookings, in other cases you may actually want to cancel and rebook if you had a refundable fare to begin with.

They had a sale last week and I rebooked then. Prices are the same for me with this one. Thanks for the head’s up nonetheless.
