Southwest periodically make flights for further in the future available. You can now book flights through January 5, 2026. Southwest has a good cancellation/refunds policy. You either get a credit towards a future flight (Wanna Get Away) or cash refund (Business Select or Anytime). That means it’s often a good idea to book as soon as the schedule is released and then check back to see if it has dropped in price, if/when it does you can just click ‘change flight’.
ZERO WGA or WGA+ flights available for my destination for Thanksgiving. Wtf Southwest.
This was the same this past year for me Christmas 2024 going to Costa Rica. United was cheaper for 3 and we have a companion pass!
For holiday weekends and other peak times, WGA & WGA+ flights become available later
Did anyone notice all the airlines price fixed for >$500 for most routes unless the route is also operated by either Spirit, Allegiant, Breeze or Avelo? Thank god the Biden justice department blocked the JetBlue spirit merger. Competition is good. Now with President Elmo musk in charge, we are forced with paying adding 25% sales tax on all cars, or to buy his cheaply made ToucheLa.
Not it’s not “all” airline prices are that fixed if also operated by Spirit, Allegiant, Breeze, or Avelo.
LAX to PHX can be $277 round trip on March 11-12 on Southwest or American or United, while Frontier is on two roundtrips on the same route on the same days.
LAX to DEN on the same day is $317 round trip on Southwest or United nonstop roundtrips, and $200 on Frontier nonstop round trips.
BNA to ORD on the same is $317 round trip nonstop on Southwest, American, or United.
Google Flights doesn’t show Spirit, Allegiant, Breeze, or Avelo nonstop on any of those routes.
So maybe it’s any competition, rather than the specific airlines you stated?
While the LAX to PHX price is much lower, nearby LGB to PHX is $407 on a route where only Southwest flies. But that’s still less than $500 obviously, though it’s far from the longest route.
Meanwhile, it’s not quite “all” cars go up by 25%,, it’s only 25% on imported cars, not on cars assembled inside the USA.
Ironically, though, some foreign brands build more cars inside the USA right now than most domestic car brands do.
So you have to be careful with using the word “all” when you haven’t done enough research to justify it.
Finally, while the Jet Blue and Spirit merger was indeed blocked, that wasn’t Jet Blue’s primary goal. It’s first priority was merging or at least vastly improving its partnership with American Airlines.
PSA – Southwest is dead. Do not fly with them.
Why not? Just flew Southwest and everyone is very much alive.
Southwest is not dead. You have to wait until they announce all of the changes to know even if they work for you.
For example, what’s worse, not flying for free but having to pay $5 per bag, or having to pay $40 per checked bag? Ie, until we know what the checked bag fees at Southwest will be, we won’t know how they compare to other airlines. And there’s a vast difference between “free” and what other airlines charge, and it makes a big difference where Southwest lands inside that range.
Meanwhile, for those people who always travel carryon-only, checked bags are irrelevant.
And for tall people, assigned seating may be better than having to bet on one of the very few extended legroom seats (only some exit row seats and some front row seats) available in open seating up to now on Southwest.
So it really depends on your circumstances whether each of these changes (some already fully announced, many yet to be fully announced) affect you negatively, positively, or not at all.
FYI – SWA flight credits will expire after 1 year for flights booked on or after May 28 2025
And if you book before then you get free checked bags.
FYI — If you book the lowest “Basic” fare, those flight credits will expire after 6 months booked on or after May 28, 2025.
$1300 price from east coast to anywhere in Caribbean or Mexico/Costa Rica during two weeks around Christmas. Too rich for my blood. For that you don’t even get a meal or seat back entertainment. Hard pass
Yup. I’m on year four of that. It’s been the same throughout those years so this isn’t new. Just booked Aruba for 59k on Dec. 20th. With having CP for P2 it’s still better than trying to book on that date with anyone else (I’d love to be wrong though).
As it gets closer to the date, sometimes they open up Wanna Get Away. Keep looking.
That’s bold of them to presume that Elliott (mis)Management will even allow them to exist for that long before they are inevitably sold for parts. Anyway, safe travels, everyone!
In the past, ticket prices were reasonable on release day. Woke up early this morning to check and they were insanely expensive. I didn’t book anything and went back to bed.
It’s widely reported that specific times for booking flights are no longer usually valid.
They were valid before the pandemic when a large segment of the travel was by business people, who had tight schedules, and so the low fares were at times when business people were unlikely to book.
But during the pandemic, so many business turned to virtual meetings, that business travel is way down since the pandemic, and so timing “tricks” based on when business people wouldn’t book no longer apply.
What’s the reason they picked June 4th? Some country would be sensitive about that date……Is Southwest trying to get attention? They’re trying to district us from talking about how unprofitable they’re
lolok
FYI: Is Southwest Planning Extra Legroom Cabin, Assigned Seats?
https://onemileatatime.com/news/southwest-extra-legroom-assigned-seats/
Let’s hope so. I’m so sick of these lying cons who preboard in wheelchairs then miraculously walk off the plane when it lands.
Yes, but it is probably not going to be for at least a year. They would need to reconfigure the cabin in each plane which means taking a few planes at a time out of service for a few weeks.
2025??
