The Offer
Some people are seeing spend bonuses on their American Express Membership Rewards cards. Offers vary, here are two examples:
- Spend $2,500+ anywhere, get 2,500 Membership Rewards® points. Can be done up to 3 times.
- Spend $2,000+ anywhere, get 1,000 Membership Rewards® points. Can be done up to 3 times.
Readers note that you should not save the offer until you are ready to use it since you only have 90 days to use.
The Fine Print
- Spend can be done in-store or online
- Valid through 12/31/21
Our Verdict
There’s a somewhat similar offer for spending at Amazon; the offer discussed in this post is for spend anywhere. Could be useful depending which card you got it, e.g. if you got on BBP, you’ll get 3x everywhere instead of the typical 2x everywhere if you meet the spend.

Got 3K spend, 3K MR bonus x3
This offer gets credited quite fast. Within a day or two after hitting spend and also has email confirming you redeemed the offer x times.
I appear to have a relatively good offer (4000 MR on $2k spend x3). If it says available through 12/31, is there any risk of it disappearing? I know some offers (e.g. Best Buy) disappear after they’re all claimed, and I want to time activation of the 90 day window with some organic spend.
Yes, that’s a serious risk based on my experience. When a similar offer came up last time, it had a really long initial shelf life. I knew I had a big purchase coming up later on, in 4-6 month’s time, so I held off from adding it. Lo and behold, the offer was yanked out of my account about 2 months in and never replaced.
I haven’t seen any good offer since the Lowe’s offer from earlier this year that expires 6/30/2021. Of course I’ve maxed that out months ago.
Damn what a deal…
Aren’t these offers like terrible? High spend and 1 MR point per dollar?
Not competitive with a SUB, but if you’re cooling off (or not into churning) they push a lot of things into profitable territory, like paying taxes at 1.96%. Also, as the author mentions, if you were going to spend it anyway (e.g. booking a flight), it’s all gravy.
2.5k for $1,500 spend up to 3x on EDP
Got 2500 points for $5000 spend over 90 days
I got @25 for $500 spend up to 10x
Thanks, we posted about that separately
$6500 spend for 3500 points, up to three times. That’s a lot of spend…
