Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
The free checking account has no monthly fees to worry about and neither does the savings account.
Early Account Termination Fee
I don’t see any early account termination fee mentioned.
Our Verdict
Doesn’t look like there is any hold period for the savings account. Better than the previous $200 checking bonus as well, although the direct deposit requirement is higher. We will add this to our list best bank account bonuses.

Make sure your credit isn’t frozen. I had TU frozen and my app went pending and they sent an email instructing me to unfreeze.
Anyone willing to refer through the family member route?
I live in St. Louis but just got a mailer for a very similar $300 bonus from community America CU with a Kansas city area address. The offer link says “kansas city area” but I don’t see anything in the terms about it being limited to residents.
https://www.communityamerica.com/Personal/Bank/Accounts/Checking/KC-Checking-Promo
CACU used to allow up to $5k in credit card funding. I’ve used Cap 1 Venture X several times. However, it’s capped at $500 now.
RIP? 🙁
Despite what the T&C clearly state, this offer does not apply to St Louis city residents. When my online application could not be completed past the residency/membership qualifications I called in to see what the problem was. Short answer is Community America is not chartered in the city of St Louis and they would not take my application. The KC-based phone rep said he “couldn’t see” the T&C I found on their own homepage, so I sent him a screenshot and was promised a follow up. To the surprise of no one, that never happened and the terms have yet to be fixed.
A better city would be Kansas City. Looks like it is better named as [KS, MO]
CommunityAmerica Membership EligibilityTo put it simply, if you live or work in the Kansas City area, you’re pretty much in. We even have options for folks who might not fit the geographical criteria.
