Staples has updated their price matching policy to clearly state that they no longer price match. On the pricing and promotions page it now states:
Does Staples match competitor’s prices?
No. Staples.com does not offer a price match policy. Staples.com policies vary from those in store. Please see a store associate at our customer service desk for in store price match policies.
Previously the page included a full F.A.Q section on price matching and the restrictions around it (can be viewed on wayback machine here). It looks like this is only affecting Staples.com as the in store ads are still displaying the 110% price match information.
PSA: IT STILL WORKS IN STORE!!! Also works for staples.com exclusives if you do an online kiosk order in the store and select “checkout as guest” and pay at the register. You are welcome 🙂
I was thinking of heading to staples today, and pay with my ink rewards coupon. But then I realized there might be an issue.
When I would price match online, then use my rewards, I think the chat people always had to apply my rewards after, or the price match wouldn’t work, since the after coupon price was no longer higher than the competition.
Does anyone have experience with kiosk + price match + rewards coupon? Thanks
Do stores match other competitors’ online price?
Tried to go to a Staples down the road for a RMN deal and they were completely closed. No warning, no signs. Just packed up, took their Staples sign, and left.
Went into Staples last weekend because they sent me a coupon to use and I found nothing reasonable priced. Without price match, the store is basically for suckers.
Did you try to price match in store? Their in-store ad clearly states they price match 110%. I just did at my store, to Amazon (sold by), for HP ink.
B&M will probably follow shortly. this company is on its last legs lol
This is most scary and concerning for us Ink Plus super users.
In other news, Staples still hasn’t sent out August ink recycling rewards. Still says “Hang tight. Rewards are on their way. If you earned Staples Rewards during the month of August, they will arrive shortly. We apologize for the delay.” Ever since Staples got taken over by a private equity firm last year, the “Toys R Us” scenario wasn’t too far off. I think we’re starting to see the death-throes of this company.
Wow, this is alarming. Thanks for the catch. Just confirmed on my account too. (was expecting another $40, to combine on an order from last month)
For anyone who’s been waiting for their August ink rewards, I just logged in today and found the delayed certificate. Thankfully they also extended the expiration to 11/17 instead of 10/30 as it would have normally been.
Yeah, this isn’t good. The back to school season probably didn’t go well.
lines were long by me, but not sure it proves anything
That’s a shame. the 110% price match could come in really nice on very rare occasions where Amazon has something on sale that Staples usually has massively overpriced (like SD cards that Staples sells for 100 dollars that Amazon would sell for 20 dollars). You could almost get it for free.
Staples B&M too or just .com?
Looks like it’s just .com since their ads still have the 110% price match info.
Thanks for posting this BTW, it reminded me to check on my Staples gift cards to see if they were fixed. They weren’t so I called and had them reissued.
Man, what a sad day. Back in the good ol’ days (early aughts), I remember getting a digital SLR price matched to some, probably nonexistent, camera shop with a shoddy website and a Brooklyn address.
You mean BHphoto and video? They are a quite well known tech retailer.
No, it was likely some place that was selling gray market cameras and didn’t have an actual storefront. Staples price matching used to be the Wild Wild West. And B&H is located in Manhattan.
Not saying it was B&H but B&H also sells grey market cameras.

(They also used to have a wearhouse in Brooklyn)
Bankruptcy around the corner.
