[Expired] Staples: No Purchase Fee On $200 Visa Gift Cards (5/5-5/11), Now Live

Deal has expired, view more Staples deals by clicking here.

The Offer

Direct link to offer (page 8)

  • Staples is offering no purchase fees on $200 Visa gift cards in store.

The Fine Print

  • Valid 5/5-5/11
  • Limit one per customer
  • In store only

Our Verdict

Make sure to use a card that earns at a high rate at office supply stores, there is also an amex offer. They printed limit one this time, unlike last time it was offered. 3% back in store via Dosh, not valid on gift cards but not enforced.

Amex (or Incomm) just suspended my serve and bluebird account loading privileges and they want me to withdraw all my funds from my accounts to close them. This really blows. I have not even loaded my amex prepaid cards since almost 2 weeks ago. This is a major blow for my GCs liquidation game since I really dislike the money order route.

How much and how long were you able to load GCs before this shutdown?

So naturally this is over and I now have a $25/100 AMEX Offer.

Been getting one card per day during this deal from various Staples locations around town. Dosh $5 CB has worked every time except yesterday. (Worked again today, in fact.) I’m going to wait until this promotion is over and all of the Dosh CB is out of pending status before I cash in, but I’m mulling over whether or not to send in yesterday’s transaction as missing cash back. Half-scared that they’re not only going to deny that claim (no big deal) but also invalidate the ones I already got CB for.

Noted. 😅 Thanks for that heads-up.

Better to keep a low profile and not file a claim. Remember that VGCs are excluded from CB in the T&C.

My local Walmart Neighborhood Market seems to have caught wind of (at least one cashier) the “no giftcard” policy for reloading bluebird/serve and money orders. I was turned down the other week when the cashier noticed I was using a gift card to try to load serve even though I did tell her I was using a regular debit card. The cashier did peek when I was swiping the GC and noticed right away. This is the first time this happens to me at a WNM. Family Dollar seems more reliable in this aspect of never being turned down for reloads with GCs.

Well this aint good news. I flirt heavily and really try to make a good impression with all the gals at my WNM so hopefully they keep sliding me through. Also just got stonewalled at Staples for the first time ever on 2k in VGC. Getting tighter, lets go recession!

All the Staples in my area have a strict 1 VGC per day policy for this promotion. Previous promos were less strict until now.

I was able to buy $600 (3 cards) each at two different stores today. The employee ringing them up didn’t bat an eye.

I just stopped by Staples, bought $600 with BofA 10% and Dosh 3%, cashier didn’t care about the 1 GC rule. I will try tomorrow again.

Max $5 per day anyway which already gets maxed out from one VGC at 3%

How does AMEX code with Staples? With Office Depot/Max when a g.c. is purchased it’s coded as a Visa Gift Card.

Should be the same. Staples reports same L3 data to Amex that OD does

Anyone recently used Visa gc on plastiq? Any difficulties? %Fees? I used $200 MasterCard I got from Staples a week ago and the fee was 1%

Most VGCs don’t work on Plastiq.

Really? Their site says we accept all Visa Mastercard prepaid cards. Why wouldn’t Visa work while Mastercard does?

The in store MC’s will have a 1% fee with Plastiq but the VGC’s will come with the standard 2.5% fee. For those of us in places where Plastiq is one of the few ways to liquidate, the $200 no fee MC’s are more valuable than VGC’s.

That’s sad.. was hoping for 1% again. Btw what are other ways to liquidate them, besides WM / Plastiq?
