  • Starbucks has launched a new promotion/game called ‘Starbucks for Life’ the prizes are as follows:

The Fine Print

Get Free Entries

You can get two free entries every day. Here’s what you need to do:

Our Verdict

The approximate retail value on some of these prizes is crazy, the grand price has an ARV of $56,575 for example. You can always dispute this value if you think it’s unfair. According to the fine print what will actually happen is that each year you’ll receive a tax form based on what the value of the items you redeemed for was. E.g if you get $100,000 in items then that is what you’ll be liable for. Even the eighth place prize (50 stars) has an ARV of $1.82. You need 125 stars for a free item so Starbucks is valuing that at $4.55. I personally don’t think this promo is worth the effort, but that’s up to you.

Played all the challenges. My gf did too. We have the same pieces, so there are probably certain ‘rare’ ones.

Once signed in, click on Challenges on the top right. You can see which challenges you can enter multiple times and get a few more entries you don’t need the form for.

Same here. I played around 40 times till I got the “no more for today” notice… 😉 However, didn’t get a single star. My gameboard has 2 in each row, but they’re messing with us. More than once I saw a game piece land on an empty spot but it gets pushes to a filled in spot, so yeah, I’m totally comfortable trying to hack my way through this, seeing as Starbucks is intent on not giving way… lol

Same here. Mine landed on my only empty space on a few categories more than once then suddenly jumped forward one.

Just fill out forms for each challenge as well as the daily plays. 2 free daily plays per day, but all the challenges you want.

FYI The form works more than once a day. I just tried it out. I find it hard to believe they didn’t catch that.

That has always been the case, you get the 2 free “daily” plays and all the additional challenges for free starting from the first day. You can get multiple challenges twice, so make sure to check that you have completed them all. If not, fill out another form for more free plays. 🙂

Never mind, I think I misunderstood what the form is for.

If your wondering where the $56k+ ARV number comes from like I was.

Starbucks for life reward is: One free menu item (sandwich, drink, etc.) per day for 30 years.
Starbucks for a year: 1 menu item per day for a year: $1,800+ ARV

The little things do add up. $$

Receiving a tax form would practically mean this is a discount down to your marginal (federal+state) tax rate.

What does that mean?

If you get a tax form, you have to report it as income, paying taxes.

If you drink $1000 of coffee, and you get the 1099, and your fed+state marginal rate is 40%, you pay $400 more in tax. So in essence you only got a 60% discount on your coffee (meh, still worth it, even if you are not frequent at SB).
