Stockpile has announced that it’s removing all trading fees, including credit card fees. Stockpile has previously done this as a limited time promotion. You’re limited to $10,000 in purchases per day. I don’t see how this is sustainable with no commissions and trading fees and also still having to pay the payment networks to process credit cards. Given that they ran a limited time promotion last year my guess is that they know what they are doing, or at least have planned for it.
Hat tip to reader calwatch
Has anyone been using Stockpile recently for GC purchases? (Or other things?) Every time I try to buy a GC, I get an error that says “Unfortunately, we were unable to complete your purchase. Please try a different payment method.” (xposting)
Stockpile just announced they are switching to a monthly fee model. You will be auto-enrolled in their $4.95 monthly plan if you don’t take action.
“You can find more detailed information on all membership and non-membership options here. (https://help.stockpile.com/en/articles/6311446-stockpile-transitioning-to-paid-membership?) If you don’t take action by the end of June 2022, you will be automatically enrolled in the monthly plan at the regular price of $4.95.”
Here is the account request closure form: (https://stockpile.typeform.com/to/dDm1nV)
Anyone know what Stockpile’s MCC code is? Wondering if we could get 5.25% with BoA Cash CC + preferred rewards.
It seems you can (when you select “Online purchases”)
Got random email from Stockpile – give gift of investing. I was able to buy 1 $500 gift card with a BoA Visa. Deinied on Amex. Denied on second card.
Other post comments note $500 daily limit now
Is this dead? I tried purchasing $200 with a CC and I got an error saying “Credit card processing is temporarily unavailable”. Permanent, or just a glitch?
What are the current limits per card / person?
Thought it was notable, that Stockpile stopped posting a couple of days ago as qualifying transactions for T-Mobile Money. I did two earlier in the month which credited, but the last two apparently did not. If you want me to just buy $1 fries and coffees at McDonald’s on my break, sure, but I will be switching to VGC later on.
You could pay t-mobile bill (many times for small amounts) with your t-mobile money debit card.
You might want to try again. It worked for me for both August and September.
Yes, just checked and it’s still going. I’m going to use T Mobile for my $1 McDonald’s coffee and if I don’t have enough transactions, then use Stockpile to buy a couple of dollars of stock a day.
I’ve found one VGC that works for Stockpile loads. So keep trying, and once you find that magic card which works, don’t let anyone else know, lol.
😱
thanks for sharing, big mouth
Don’t need to use it for “loads” We can just buy stocks using the VGC without fees anyways.
Could you tell me how to use VGC to buy stocks on Stockpile please?
Is it that you redeem Visa/ Mastercard gift card or you just go buy the gift card for that stock and then redeem it for your account? Thanks!

First 4 digits of card?
So I accidentally found it .But it seems I am limited to 4 linked cards per account with no way to remove cards I’ve already linked. For gift card purchases with said card I am told that I’ve “met my annual limit.” Am I missing something? I am happy to use this for one off liquidations, but doesn’t seem terribly scalable.
Also, feel free not to answer. I was able to meet MSR for an entire card thanks to your original post and I don’t want you to have to aid in the killing of any of your further personal MS methods.
can you PM which card you used?
You don’t link the card. Just pay for it using the debit option. Without killing it this is a common VGC found in many different stores and is often used for money orders. Same BIN which seems to evade Walmart and Family Dollar load bans.
calwatch I found a card, too, but I noticed that when they get new expiration months, they stop working. Have you noticed that? IDK if Stockpile stops you from using these cards after it doesn’t go through the first time, but I once tried a card, it told me to enter a valid dc. Maybe a few wks later, it worked. Strange. Encountering the same problem w new expiration dates.
Are you still loading via gc?
I did up to last week. I was using the kind of card mentioned in my September 27 post until it stopped earning store points. Then I switched to another card that did earn store points and used those for stockpile loads until they stopped working, and to avoid hanging on to a bunch of high dollar cards I used them to pay taxes instead of holding and waiting.
I may switch back to the first card, which can also be purchased at most drug stores, to see if this avenue is dead or not, since I could always buy money orders with this kind of card. Loads from T-Mobile Money have always worked normally and count towards the ten transactions. I only did around $10k through this avenue so not significant, mostly to maximize my category bonuses.
Just did the legwork, that other card is not working anymore either. Hopefully they come back or we find another one that works.
Thanks. We may be talking about the same card since they stopped working around the same time.
Same for me. I ran about 30k through in the last few months. Not happy… 🙁
P.S.: If someone finds something that still works, can you tag me? Don’t have to mention what exactly it is.
And now apparently neither card earns store points. Oh well.
yep, its a goner. It was a great few months though!
Seriously, Stockpile. At least bring back the fees, but lower them a bit if you can’t afford to eliminate them entirely. I loved boosting my portfolio this way.
So this is completely 100% dead right? Should the post be updated to reflect that?
Buying stock with debit cards could still be a little bit useful, if you have a debit card that gives rewards, or that you need to do a certain amount of spending on.
Though, a debit card I was using has stopped working except for very small amounts; not sure which end is blocking it.
