Our Verdict
Looks like a nice, easy $60 bonus. Copper Banking is meant to help your children budget, but I believe even someone without a child can open an account and should be eligible for the Swagbucks bonus. (Copper also offers a $5 referral bonus, I’m not sure if there’s a way to stack it.)
it’s kind of weird to see no way of transferring funds out in the app. Have to do an ACH pull I guess.
Is everyone sure that you don’t have to set up a teen account in addition to the parent account? I completed a similar offer for Copper years back on the Coinout app, and I needed to set up both parent and teen accounts with two different phones and phone numbers. Google Voice and VOIP numbers don’t work for this, so I actually needed to use two real cell phone numbers in order to complete my offer, which did credit for me successfully. I’m thinking that maybe it’s the teen account that requires the $20 deposit for the Swagbucks offer, maybe that’s why it didn’t track automatically for anyone? There was also a Copper offer on the Ad Gem offer wall recently that required the same $20 deposit, but to the teen account, after which it instantly credited for most.
I’m confused how they even would be able to track this (which I guess they don’t based on comments here). Is there a way for them to put some identifier in the system so that once you install the app, they still know where it came from? It doesn’t say anything about needing to use the same email address as SB.
Did this track automatically for anybody here? I hate having to contact support.. sometimes they deny it
I applied and they simply declined me. No reason given. I reached out to them and got a response, “compliance team made the decision not to open the account”. Wtf.
No Chex hit, no EWS hit, no hard pull. I did the offer a little over a month ago. No CC funding. External account linking via PLAID.
P1 did MyPoints. P2 did Swagbucks.
NEITHER OFFER TRACKED. It tracks that I clicked on it, but never got the gold coin or went pending.
P1 got SB credited when submitting a ticket on about day 7 after complaining that it never went pending. P2 submitted a ticket too and instead got told to wait until day 32 to submit a ticket again. Submitted tonight. Now the wait begins to see if they can grant “courtesy credit” like it’s coming out of their Christmas fund at work.
Application for the account is all about the parent. You don’t have to make up info for your child – you can just not request the debit card for the child’s account. However, that leaves you with no way to get the money out of the account, other than using an external bank ACH. BE ADVISED: The Copper app can only pull from an external bank, not push. So, make sure you have a bank that can be linked via trial deposits and works with Evolve Bank & Trust. Alliant and NWFCU work. I haven’t pulled the money yet, but trials were deposited and retracted properly, so it SHOULD work to pull the funds when I am ready to vacate.
I see nothing in my app about a referral program. Guess I have not impressed them with my $21 balance and no transactions. About a week ago, both P1 & P2 got a $5 survey offer for answering a few questions which paid out instantly. It was only about 5 questions long – multiple choice. From what I recall: Where did you hear about us? What is the most important feature they offer? Why haven’t you requested the child debit?
Gadget - Bank Bonus Geek You are always at rescue. Thank you.
Thanks for the detailed recap. P1 just applied and very quick sign-up.
Dumb question, but when you say “No Chex hit,” are you saying it doesn’t pop up on your Chex report, or that they don’t check your Chex report before approving your account?
Both. They didn’t place an inquiry on my Chex report, and therefore they did not check it.
Typical for Fintechs… Juno, Varo, Chime, Aspiration, Lili, Netspend, etc etc… rarely do Fintechs pull Chexsystems.
Huh, that’s pretty interesting. Thanks for the reply.
Update: For P2, finally today, 11 days after ticket submission, Swagbucks did go ahead and pay the 6,000 SB. Submitted the top half of the Copper account confirmation email on the initial ticket entry, and then two screenshots of the app uploaded later after getting the help ticket email from SB. Those two captures showed the deposit, and the page showing account registration info (minus the DOB blacked out).
This week: Going to be pulling the money from Copper via Alliant and NWFCU… hoping for zero drama, and to zero the Copper account in preparation for closing.
Gadget - Bank Bonus Geek do you need to be a parent to complete this offer with Copper? Was it worth the time spent in general?
Sunshine The entire application is all about the “parent”. AFAIK, they are not going to know if you are a parent or not. There was no legal language about having to be a bona fide parent that I recall seeing. The only part where having a child would come into play is ordering the debit card, which I chose not to do
Submitting tickets to get paid is never fun, but really didn’t require much time. Since there is no Chex pull, there is little downside.
Maybe because I never ordered the debit card, that’s why SB/MP didn’t pay out automatically. I don’t think so, and it was not part of the terms.
Is it worth the chex?
I hope they don’t pull chex?
whats good about Copper Banking???
$60 for opening the account, apparently.
