The Offer
- Target is offering a free $15 Target gift card when you buy $100 Apple gift card.
Our Verdict
Pay with REDcard for an extra 5% off. These gift cards are quite valuable given they now work for purchasing real Apple products, as well as for digital purchases on iTunes. This is the best variation of this offer, as sometimes it’s only for $10 Target gift card.
Last night: Bought 1 Apple GC online and received the $15 Target GC instantly.
Today: Did a repeat purchase and my ordered was cancelled by Target ~20 mins later.
Are they limiting this offer to one per person/account/ credit card? 2 years ago I was able to buy 5 in separate transactions and the deal worked fine.
Made a new sign in with a different email, same address and name, different CC, worked no problem. A pain to get $15 but I’m in the market for a new iPhone SE so only need to do it a total of 4 times. I have that many CCs and emails. Sigh.
Heads up again. Last year, same sale. Bought online and about five cards in store. Always check cards for seals and stickers lined up.
Buy, immediately add to Apple account by scanning barcode. One was active and empty ($0). Took over an hour between pestering local manager and Apple customer support to unwillingly speak over my phone. Got a “courtesy” refund from Target, then manager applied to new card, with Apple on phone. Fifth card worked.
I grabbed one online today (thanks Doc) and want to get a few more for a purchase at Apple, but last Thanksgiving scared me off in-store. Not saying that’s common at Target and to avoid it, but online will be safest if limited quantity.
appears limit of one, my second order was immediatly cancelled
Target only allows you to buy one $100 gift card online. You have to make multiple purchase in store.
However, I went to the store today, they don’t have this buy $100 get $15 promotion… I wonder if it’s only online this year….
Dont buy them.
I am stuck with a big balance that i am unable to use.
I cant even pay with just the balance, even when no credit card is involved.
I would not buy these gift cards until apple resolve this problem.

Interesting. Never had an issue myself. I wonder how many of the issues happened after loading a bunch of gift cards. With the scams that get people to pay with iTunes/Apple gift cards, it makes sense that Apple would put a safeguard in to prevent quick use… if it happens when a bunch of cards are loaded into an account.
Will this work in-store at Target (to avoid delays/fraud)? Thinking about buying an iPhone soon.
Seems that the Extended Warranty for BofA requires item be purchased in it’s entirety using CCR card. However, seems Chase will cover items, even if only partially paid for by CFF card. AmEx seems to cover only the portion paid for by the BCP card.
From my past experience, chase will only cover amount that was charged up to the limit. You might want to call to confirm if this still how they do it.
Wouldn’t buying in-store make you more likely to be buying a card with a stolen number?
DP: I had previously bought a stack of these hoping to use it to pay for iphone 14 on launch day, everytime I tried to hit purchase using the gift cards applied to my apple account it failed and ended up being flagged for fraud! Apple store said they were seeing a lot of fraud with these gift cards. Just wasn’t worth the hassle. I’m all for saving $, but after all the headache, just not worth it.
Doesn’t work until Nov. 20
As it clearly states in the headline.
DoC is giving a heads up, allowing those of us who want/need these cards to know the best deal out there. I, for one, appreciate that.
Great for taking advantage of in-app purchases. For example F1TV pro has a first year discount for $50 that’s easy to get (compared to $70)
Is this valid for in-store purchases?
Yes, but once you add the card to your account and it becomes an “Apple Account Balance” credit it becomes UNUSABLE in store…and you may not be able to place an order for store pickup because the system doesn’t allow it.
I spent hours this summer while I was away on a long trip figuring this out the hard way. Ended having to have the item shipped to my home address.
Apple support as always is completely unhelpful.
did this two years ago. it took some time to get my 8 gift cards but worked fine…
