[Expired] Target: Get 10% Off Target Giftcards On December 5th & 6th

Deal has ended, view more Target deals by clicking here.

Update 12/5/20: Deal is now live. This time they increased the limit to $500 (previously $300), BUT they require a Target Circle coupon to get the offer, so you can only do this once per Target Circle account. They also made a change this time that the gift cards are apparently live immediately.

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Target will be offering 10% discount on Target gift cards on Saturday December 5th and Sunday December 6th.

The Fine Print

  • Valid 12/5/20-12/6/20 for a one-time use purchase in-store or online
  • Gift cards purchased online can be delivered via Email, Mail or Mobile
  • Offer valid for one transaction and can include multiple Target GiftCards up to $500 in Target GiftCards ($50 maximum discount) per Target Circle account
  • Offer excludes Target Visa Gift Cards, Target Mastercard Gift Cards, Target American Express Gift Cards and gift cards issued by other retailers such as dining, lifestyle and entertaining gift cards

Based on prior deals:

  • Available both in-store and online on physical or electronic or mobile gift cards
  • Max $300 in gift card purchases per customer is eligible for the discount
  • Minimum $10 in gift card purchases required to get the 10% discount
  • Gift cards won’t be valid for use until December 7th when the sale is over

Our Verdict

They run this deal annually in early December; here’s our post about this deal last year. This year’s deal is not yet showing in the online ad, but it’s being reported on SD. Looks like this time around they are keeping the offer up for 2 days instead of 1 day which is nice.

We’ll have to wait until we see the official terms: last time around, they only limited us to $300 when purchasing online whereas in-store there was no stated limitation, leaving it up to the store how much they want to sell you.

10% off Target gift cards is certainly a good deal. Don’t use the Target REDcard since it does not earn a bonus on Target gift card purchases. Use your Discover card to get 5% back this quarter for your online purchases or pay with Paypal/Freedom for 5x this quarter or just use any everyday credit card. Could be worth stocking up for the year. Some might have a resell play on these as well.

Anyone not receive their gift card in the mail yet? When I ordered a gift card, it said it would arrive by Wednesday, but I haven’t received it yet. Also, I received an email on Sunday saying it shipped with tracking info from USPS, but the tracking number doesn’t exist.

Same. Tracking number provided is a gibberish format, way longer than an actual USPS tracking code. But I think they mail gift cards out in regular first class mail envelopes, no tracking provided, unless things have changed. Hopefully it shows up in the next couple days, especially since my intention was to actually use one of mine as a gift!

I still have not yet received any of my gift cards yet. Also have gibberish tracking numbers. Target’s pulling a major scam here.

Same. I called today and they know about this issue and it is being worked and they should be shipping it shortly if not already: There wont be a real tracking number. They gave me a further 10% back as courtesy. So I would say call and complain if you have not got it yet.

Thanks! Forgot about this, but remembered at the last minute tonight and paired with my 5% Discover Cashback.

Anyone know if target bills the card only when the gift card is shipped or emailed? My statement closing date is coming up and if I could get them to email the cards after the closing date and “charge” my card after, I could push the payment to next year. Its only 450, but every bit helps during the season.

Target billed my credit card the same day the gift card was ordered and emailed. It may take two or three business days for my bank to *post* the charge, though.

You can opt for shipping, that might delay the credit card posting but not sure.

If I buy a Target e-gift card (i.e., not a physical card), does that still count towards Discover Q4 5% cashback?

Bought 500$ each for P1 and P2 and added to my target account. Used BOfA credit card (with preferred bonus for online shopping…which works out slightly more than discover/paypal). Great deal!

How is it better than Discover/Paypal’s 5%. Bofa gives 3% only (maybe little more for relationship rewards)

I think the relationship rewards for BoA preferred works out to 5.25-5.75%

Like Jack said below with preferred platinum relationship it is 75% additional. So approximately 5.25%

Can I use several different visa/MasterCard/Amex prepaid card in one transaction in store? Would like to max it out with those prepaid cards I got earlier.

Yes, you can use multiple cards to pay in store. Prepaid cards autodrain at the terminal if you skip entering the PIN, so no need to specify amounts.

Thanks for the reminder. Baby #1 on the way, need to figure out the most expensive thing we plan to purchase that qualifies for the 10% target circle discount. Already got the car seat out of the way.

Almost 26% discount on one item when factoring 10% off gc, 7.5% cb with chase freedom/PayPal, then 10% off target circle coupon.

Just a note that this is not as great a discount as it appears if you are not into volume. The reason I say this is now several grocery stores as well as Best Buy, Lowes and Staples carry Target GCs in store and when offers are available like Amex 10 off 50 or the recently ended S&S 25 off 150, you can buy these at a bigger discount (20%+5% or 16%+6%) than the one that is achieved here(10%+5%).

Jack
Jack (@guest_1103730)
December 5, 2020 20:28

Personally I don’t waste those Amex offers on stores like Target, I go for Amazon or Visa so that I can use them more universally. Plus, I’d have to wait for them if or when they come. This 14.5% with Target and Discover is here and now and a perfectly good discount.

Personally I would value Walmart gc on par with amazon because they usually have the lowest prices.

Amazon is about getting free promotional credit and targeted discount offers which Walmart doesn’t have. Walmart is the most consistent low price, but not the lowest price when being shopper savvy.

I price match Target with Walmart and local store ads. No reason to pay more at a store if I don’t have to.

why is VGC better than MGC?

Jack

Sam MGC (greater than) VGC. And probably because reports say WM liquidation is becoming an issue with VGC.

I’m still weary about security issues with MGC even though those were USB related. No issues with Meta MGC yet though.

Now that I think about it, MGC are much more pretty and colorful than the plain gray VGC. May be easier sneak MO swipes.

Maybe I’m not understanding this… but isn’t this stackable with the 10% off Circle, making it 10+10+5 (or whatever % from credit card)?

Lolavix
Lolavix (@guest_1103852)
December 6, 2020 07:38

The 5% Target gives for using your red card wouldn’t stack because when you purchase something and pay with the GC, you’re paying with the GC and not your red card.

Deborah
Deborah (@guest_1104058)
December 6, 2020 16:07

I wasn’t clear, sorry. If I buy the gift card using my Bof A credit card, that’s 5% plus the 10%. If I use the gift card for the 10% off circle offer, it looks like the gift card amount doesn’t count towards the total, if I’m understanding the rules, so that’s not stackable.

But if don’t use the gift card butI use red card for the circle purchase, is it 10% plus the regular 5%? If not , can I use a different card to get the cards cash back plus the 10%?
TIA

You can’t get the 10% off circle offer on the purchase of GC.

Not sure if that’s directed at me, but I was talking about buying the gift card with a non-Target credit card. My initial question was whether one can use the gift card to make a Circle 10% off purchase… whether the value of the gift card counts toward the circle purchase.

TB
TB (@guest_1104176)
December 6, 2020 20:38

Sorry you seem to be really confused. You don’t need a Target credit card for anything here and Circle is just their rewards program anyone can join. Now as for the gift card, yes the offer is for 10% off but that only applies to the purchase of the GC and can’t be stacked with any other Target incentives (so you only have the rewards from whatever card you use to make the purchase).

Thanks. I know I don’t need a target credit card.
One more try:
1) I buy a $100 Gift card for $90.
2) I choose an item which is $100; with the circle promotion it’s $90.
3) I want to use the $90 gift card to pay for the $90 item. Is that allowed or not?
