Target updated their online checkout system to allow splitting your payment with two credit or debit cards.
Cool. Being able to split is always useful for optimizing credit card spend, e.g. finishing a quarterly category or other spend requirement, draining down a prepaid card, etc.

My account has a Target Circle Bonus, “Make 1 qualifying purchase of $70 or more with your Target Circle Card to earn $10 in Target Circle Rewards”. Anyone know if that’ll be triggered by spending just $1 on the Target Circle Card (with the rest paid via GC or other credit card), or if it requires spending $70 on the Target Circle Card?

You have to be a Circle Rewards member and activate the bonus. No mention of Target Circle card.
The current offer in my account is weird since it specifically says “with your Target Circle Card”. I have done other offers in the past which didn’t mention the card (I had a RedCard then too).
A side note: if you get a $15 gift card for spending $50, that $15 is subtracted from the total that they look at for the “Make 1 qualifying purchase of $70” offer.

I tried paying for most of a $70 order with Target gift cards, and a small amount on my Target Circle Card, and it worked to trigger the $10 bonus rewards.
I didn’t redeem any Circle rewards on that order, since I wasn’t sure if that would subtract from the total and not count as spending $70. Do you know what happens in that case?

To answer your question, these promotions qualify oddly on the amount of the item and not amount paid. For example, in past, if an item was $50 there was a 10% off coupon for that item, the whole $50 would contribute to the total amount even if I paid $45. So, redeeming circle reward may work the same way. Can’t guarantee though.
I save my circle rewards for specific situations.
Discovered the same things you mention but I also don’t know if redeeming Circle rewards would lower the qualifying amount. I save them too for those 10% tax situations.
Does anyone know which other common retailers allow this? I have a few prepaid cards I need to finish up. thakns
Ebay and Paypal are the only ones I know of. It’s pretty uncommon.

I think most grocery stores/big box retailers will allow multiple cards. Doesn’t help with virtual cards though.
enjoy it while it lasts, they will stop this within a year once they realize peeps like us are charging 1 cent to the red card.

In store I’m guessing it was always possible (assuming the rep knows how)
Majority of instore retailers can split transactions.
Also, prepaid cards can be drained without stating specific amount or asking to split transaction. POS system is smart enough to know the balance on card and deduct that amount automatically.
I’ve had issues at some stores. At Sam’s, a cashier will do it if they know the exact amount and SCO won’t accept if not enough on it to cover. Used to be able to drain at Albertsons but now it’s limited to one drain and one complete purchase card. Some still are simple, just a test what works sometimes,

If instacart does it, that would be gold. Imagine splitting it across two chase cards and paying only 5 bucks out of pocket.

eBay is also allowing split payment (2 cards max) on checkout
I think there is minimum amount since it sometimes doesn’t show up for me. I usually go through Paypal to do it instead
Just tested out that you can charge a small amount like $1 to a redcard for the free shipping and put the rest on another card. Doing it this way you will forgo the 5% on most of the order but it will be useful when you have the category bonuses or SUB.
