The Offer
- Target is offering 10% off Target gift cards from 9/30 – 10/1. Limit of $500 in cards can be purchased
Our Verdict
We usually see this deal a couple of times a year. Although normally it’s not locked to RedCard holders.
Bought 2x$500 b/c we have a secondary account in wife’s name. The 10% offer worked for both. Paid with PayPal linked to Chase Freedom Flex for 5% and clicked through Rakuten for an extra 1% in hopes that it tracks.
Some DPs that may prove useful:
(1) Offer seems to be one per household, based on last name. P1 and P2 each ordered successfully (different last names). P3’s order was auto-cancelled (same last name as P1).
(2) Transaction tracked on RetailMeNot. Not holding my breath on it actually paying out. Last year a transaction tracked on another portal, then got zeroed out later.
(3) P2 was able to get the offer to appear after adding a *closed* Red Card as a payment method.
Fwiw, it worked fine for both me and my wife (same last name and address). We also paid with same PayPal account linked to the same (Chase Freedom Flex) card on both. Discount applied and gift cards showed up as expected. Have since saved them both to my account — which is our main account, just use wife’s for doubling up on deals like this.
Order placed this morning. Linked the target redcard offer and checked out with PayPal.
YMMV? Shows offer unavailable for me. Been a red card holder since 2014.
Sam Try adding your Red Card as a payment method under your account settings if you have not done so already, and then check the offer again.
Offer unavailable for me too and my Red Card is set as my default payment method.
Remember the red card doesn’t get 5% on Target gift cards. This offer can be paid with any card, so make sure to use the card with the best % for Target.
Or the best percent with PayPal…
Can you buy 3rd party gift cards using Target wallet in store?
Romario This has not worked for several years. Hardcoded.
Anybody know if this would count as BofA Online Shopping? It should as long as it doesn’t code as POI Funding Transactions.
It did the past two years during the post black friday GC sale
Yes, any purchases in Target including Gift Cards count as BOA online shopping category. It’s the better option is you don’t have any 5% category card.
Checked out with paypal (using paypal mastercard) for (hopefully) an extra 3% cash back.
The offer is unavailable to me. I usually buy the max every year but I don’t recall buying this year yet.
Do you have a RedCard? The December sale isn’t exclusive to RedCard but this one is.
It’s a widely targeted offer, but still targeted. I’ve got a player with a RedCard and they’re not getting it to show. Even through the offer link it shows as unavailable.
That happened to me last year during this sale. Not available to me despite holding a red card. I don’t use it much since I accumulate gift cards. Get a letter once a year that says I have to use it or lose it. Just used it a week or so ago so that may be why this coupon is available to me this time.
MoreSun Ev Try adding the Red Card as a payment method under account settings if this has not been done already, and then check the offer again.
Looks like you don’t have to use the RedCard as payment. I guess wait until tomorrow and pay with PayPal to get 5% back from Chase Freedom?
Or PayPal with discover card today.
Think Target also takes Apple or Google Pay so Discover can work tomorrow for those.
There is no way PayPal with Discover will post today to qualify for Q3 5% cashback. It hasn’t even worked for me the day before the last day of the quarter through PayPal.
Not true. Those with OnJuno can use the 10% cash back offer on the card for an extra 10% back on the 10% discount Target is offering.
What’s the cap on 10% back? Albert offers 10% but only up to $50 in spend.
$300 cashback limit for Metal (requires $250 DD/month). Otherwise $25 cashback limit.

Can you explain this? What is the deal with PayPal / Chase? What starts tomorrow?
Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex categories for Q4 2022 are Paypal and Walmart
Freedom reward category is Paypal and Walmart in Q4
