  • Some exclusions apply.

Our Verdict

Update: Purchasing gift cards does trigger the 20% off coupon this year.

They offered the same deal last year as well. The nice thing about the 20% off is there is no limit on the discount. We don’t know what exclusions will apply, but for getting the 20% off coupon last year gift cards worked (20% off can’t be used on giftcards). Usually the 20% off will exclude some electronics and all Apple products. If you don’t want to spend $50 then do the in store offer and you can spend as little as $0.01

Hi Darv, thanks for your data point. Did you buy a Target gift card or a third party gift card?

Thanks again! 😀

Remember the $200 eBay gift card for $152 at Target last Xmas? Wonder if we’ll see that again? https://slickdeals.net/f/11093255-200-ebay-e-gift-card-for-152-red-card-holders

20% is a cool marketing figure. i monitor prices pretty regularly for the items i care about and they are all jacked up to compensate for the large discount. their real-time price adjustments are just like airlines or amazon. but you still come out ahead. just not 20%.

Target is generally overpriced as a whole. Still if you have your eye on something that is hard to find anywhere else(certain toys and home goods come to mind), it’s worth it. Still trying to figure out a way to stack this though. Something may present itself as things get closer.

true. thats the sweet spot. hitting special items.

also, if ur trying to stack, target is pretty rough now, but you can still do discounted target GC bought with ur ideal CCs on websites that pay portal, then use those discounted target GC w/ the 20% discount and you can even try a portal again on target, but thats YMMV since ur using a code and GC to pay. then target also has special “buy XX get XX” deals all over the holidays. you stack all that, ur savings are pretty big. but it takes work. and many things dont work anymore.

I think the 20% could be used very effectively on groceries, which are usually very competitively priced to begin with- 20% savings really could represent discounts you can’t find anywhere else. How much in groceries can you really buy and use? Idk, but worth contemplating.

true. but im already a big costco and sams club guy. i really dont have any special needs at other merchants like walmart or target. altho they have much better variety. then i use discounted walmart GC at the neighborhood stores which has many useful grocery items. that just me though. i know other people have much different preferences.

Last year they gave this out at my local target on black Friday by just going into the store. They might do it again. You can always stop by later in the day when the craziness has relaxed.
