Our Verdict
Kind of a lame promotion as you need two flights with each airline, not just 4 total.
Hat tip to Loyalty Lobby
While I agree with above comments, but we dont know the rules for these “targeted” promo. I believe these promos are only sent to select individuals who have bookings in the system during those dates. The intent is to make them credit to AA, instead of somewhere else…
I find this kind of promo fascinating as someone whose spouse is a marketing professional and I often pick her brains on it.
The purpose of a promo is move spend or in this case flying decisions: who in his right mind would fly two segments on AA AND two on AS for a measly 2000 miles which are worth probably 25 bucks? The only people who would benefit from it are folks incidentally fulfilling the exact same requirements due to organic flying. In that case, AA is just giving away 2000 points and gaining nothing. Just a waste of marketing dollars.
Hilarious to label such a trivial promo as *exclusive deal* as if someone is going to jump hoops to gain eligibility!
Right now I am booking flights for my travel in May and between Alaska and Delta with similar time and the same price……
I don’t think AA is so stupid as to throw money away for nothing. Even if it doesn’t stand to gain financially directly from this promotion, it could be an experiment they are running to learn about customer behavior.
It’s time to stop laughing at others just because we don’t understand why they are doing what they are doing…
Way too much work for 2k.
I’ll just do the stupid AA 40th anniv contest and call it a day.
Read the fine print: it’s not 2 segments on Alaska OR American, it’s 2 segments on BOTH Alaska AND American. 2 segments total required, 2 on EACH airline. Not a trivial difference.
@William Charles – Both headline and 1st bullet point are wrong.
