Just a warning to everyone. The trick of downgrading is no longer available. Google now keeps you on the upgraded plan for an entire year and then your downgrade goes into effect. Don’t do it unless you feel like wasting $50.

Spent awhile on chat with their help desk. They confirmed that there is now no way to downgrade a plan midcycle and use the remaining credits. They ended up allowing me to cancel the 2TB purchase. But the trick described below can be officially called dead.

even better if youre targeted for the free google tv:
https://slickdeals.net/f/16747700-google-one-subscribers-only-upgrade-to-a-premium-2-tb-plan-with-annual-billing-and-get-a-chromecast-with-google-tv-4k?src=SiteSearch

If you don’t want to keep the 2tb plan, downgrade within the google one app after it ships and you’ll get prorated credit back to your google one account. It will NOT refund to your amex. So you’ll essentially get $100 credit for $80 for whatever plan you actually want

How long does it take to get the free Google TV ? Any issues/clawback in downgrading the plan after the shipment ?

Got the 20% back on G1 offer on one of my Amex cards.

On a side note, I also have a “spend $35 get $10” offer for google photos on another Amex card.
The Amex wording says, it is valid for photos storage and print services. AFAIK, Google doesn’t sell standalone photo storage anymore and it is all Google one. Wonder if it will work on Google one ? Any DPs ?

It trigger on mine, in addition to the Google One offer.

Did you go through the website listed on the Google photos offer? “Valid online at US website photos.google.com” I have both on the same card and would be great to get the additional $10.

So you had a card that had both the Google One 20% and the Google Photos $10 off $35?

Did the credit post?
I got an email saying I used the offer but my amount hasn’t been credited. The 10% back was credited but not the Google photo credit.

Same. I got both emails (20% back and $10 Google Photos back), so it looked like it triggered both. But I never received the 2nd credit, so I doubt the double dip actually worked. At least the Chromecast just shipped. I’ll wait another few days and then downgrade from 2TB to 200GB.

Yup. I never got credited. I’m wondering if it’s worth it to message Amex.
Maybe I can sell the Chromecast for $10 on FB Marketplace. LOL.

Did you get the “spend $35 and get $10 3x” offer?
I did the T2 offer (with Chromecast, why not?!) and I received two emails saying I used two of the 3 “spend $35…” offer.

If anyone has the spend $35 and get 10 back 3x + 20% back + free Chromecast offer this is a pretty double dip.

Not sure where else to ask this..

I am almost at 200GB on a 200GB plan.. Google One seriously does not have anything in between 200GB and 1TB?!?!? that’s a fairly big difference of $29.99 vs. $99.99. I only need about 100 GB more. What should I do? I already did the trick outlined below about paying for the 1TB first with the AmEx offer and then switching to the 200GB plan.. hmm

How much of that needs to be readily tied into the Google universe? If some is just general backup use another provider to diversify: Dropbox, onedrive etc.

Jay in my case, 75% of my storage space is being taken up by videos taken on my phone. The Google Photos app, I think purposely designed this way to fleece money from customers, doesn’t allow you to customize which photos and videos to upload automatically. Which sucks. It just all automatically backups.. and then I get nervous about deleting the videos because of the chance I might accidentally delete the only copies since videos take a long time to backup to other services. I guess I wish there were a way to disable video uploads.. so that would force me to use a different service to backup vids

Success! Had this offer on P2 Biz Plat AU card, upgraded from 100GB to 2TB and immediately downgraded back to 100GB, good until 2027 and all done in browser. AmEx offer email came a few hours later.

I apparently wrongly noted my G1 renewal date, which was yesterday and already had a pending $19.99 charge (diff card so no AmEx offer conflict). The upgrade auto cancelled the pending annual 100GB charge, per my G1 subscription page, instead of extending my subscription or (worse) double billing me.

Thanks to Drimen and others for the breakdown.

For anyone with P1 and P2, you can upgrade to 2 TB ($99.99), downgrade, upgrade AGAIN, and downgrade AGAIN. It’ll charge $99.99 each time you upgrade and let you max the offer out with $30 x 2 off.

Contrary to what would logically make sense, when you upgrade the 2nd time, they do NOT apply your existing credits from the first downgrade. Instead, they’ll make you pay another $99.99 today, and your renewal date for the $99.99 plan will be in 2024. Quite customer unfriendly to not default to use existing credits when you upgrade, but it works for taking advantage of this offer.

When you downgrade the second time to the $19.99 plan (assuming that’s what you use), it’ll show your renewal date in 2032.

Couple notes:

1. If you legitimately need to upgrade in the future, you may be stuck paying out-of-pocket for the first month/year instead of using your credits from this deal. No idea if you could call customer service to upgrade using your credits or something, as I had no reason to try this today.
2. Should go without saying, but just a reminder that this deal doesn’t lock in pricing, and you’ll be stuck with Google One no matter what. So you could end up with less than ten years prepaid if they increase pricing. Even with these limitations, I chose to take the gamble and prepay the full amount on two offers.

Thanks Drimen for the original tips about how to do this.

My pleasure, and thank you for the data points. I was thinking perhaps the way google treats the credit has something to do with the “status” of the freshly created credit. If the charge is still pending and 2nd upgrade is done on the same day it might not see the first upgrade since it hasn’t cleared yet and that’s why it’s charging $99 the second time? But when it calculates the renewal date it takes into account all the pending credits ($99 x 2).. Either way, glad it worked for you and others, otherwise this deal would’ve been useless for those of us in between renewal cycles.

Another side benefit of all this is that you get 10% off the Google Store. I’m hoping the Pixel offers that are going on right now will come back (or stay around) through Xmas and New Year. You can get ~$50 of the Pixel 7 and hopefully this will stack with other Pixel deals/credits.
