Update 1/10/24: Deal is back through 3/4/24; send $30 and get back $10. (ht ToP)
The Offer
No direct link, targeted offer
- Split a charge and get up to $15 back.
- Enroll in Send & Split.
- Split a transaction in the Amex App with Venmo or PayPal users (tap any charge, then tap ‘Split It’).
- Once you’re paid back at least $15 to your Amex Card by your friends, we’ll give you an additional $5 credit to your enrolled Card.
The Fine Print
- Valid until January 17, 2023
- Once enrolled, you may earn the bonus credit by: (i) splitting a charge on your Card using Send & Split; and (ii) being paid back to your American Express Card by Venmo/Paypal users in the form of a statement credit in the amount equal to or greater than $15 by 1/17/2023.
- Each time you split an eligible transaction and get paid back $15 or more to your Card, you will receive an additional $5 statement credit from American Express on the Card you enrolled with, up to 3 times (total of $15).
Our Verdict
Bit of an annoying promotion to complete, but basically a free $15.

So many Amex offers posted and so many amex offers that aren’t available in my account
Never got around to using the added offer the first time, auto updated to a 3/4 expiration date.
I received the new round of targeted offer and activated it on my card, but now it’s missing. Anyone else having that issue? I know 100% I enrolled and even activated Send & Split (I’ve never used it or had enrolled before).
Did you already redeem it in Dec round and again received it again ?
Seeing this offer again on my Plat and Plat Schwab cards. Send $30+, get $10 back. Ends 3/4/2024.
I also have the offer and unlike last year you don’t have to split anything, just send $30.
Got the full $15 from this offer finally as my BCE card was targeted, though not for P2. You have to enroll in the split payment feature in the app, and they send you emails every step of the way, including when other users have accepted your split requests, etc. I downloaded the Amex app, tapped to split an internet bill transaction from AT&T with P2 and P3 via PayPal, and got the $5 bonus offer credit emails almost immediately.
However, I tried to split another transaction on the same day with P2 and P3, and I did not receive any such emails on that split. Maybe you can only receive the $5 once per day per player? Of course, I did not receive the $5 for the second split I tried with P2 and P3. So, I tried to split yet another transaction on another day with P2 and P3 and alas, I finally received the third bonus offer credit email soon after.
Just make sure that you adjust your split settings to accept your payments from others as statement credits so that you qualify for this offer. Also, all of the transactions that I split were internet/wireless bill payments that also qualified for other Amex offers ($5/$75 internet x 3 and 10% off wireless), and I didn’t lose any of my rewards by double dipping those transactions with this offer.
I had this appear on my BCP today after having not been previously targeted, so perhaps another round has gone out.
p2 sent a payment via Paypal 4 hours ago. The amount has showed up as paypal balance even though the split pay back option is the card. Is this normal, i.e. paypal as an in-between step. or something wrong?
I’m having the same problem with paypal. I requested it, got paid back, the balance is sitting in paypal but Amex says the split transaction is incomplete.
Gen Jose Same problem Paypal. Had to transfer received funds to my connected bank account in Paypal.
I tried split offer with Venmo 1 hour back and just got the email confirmation from Amex.
DP: Used David methodology below to split $40 transaction three times: $15 for P2, $15 for P3, and then again $15 for P2. Got three “bonus earned” e-mails. Weird, but it works. https://www.doctorofcredit.com/targeted-amex-offer-split-a-charge-venmo-paypal-get-a-5-credit-limit-15/#comment-1467508
trying to link paypal, and it asked me to contact amex. Called amex, they want to send me a link to upload my driver license. I don’t want to send them my DL. It looks my card got locked. What a mess.
are you trying to pay or split a charge
If anyone has done this offer: Can you use one of those funny debit cards loaded into Venmo/Paypal to pay the portion of the split?
