Update 7/18/23: Deal is back and valid until October 17, 2023
The Offer
No direct link, targeted offer
- Get a one-time $25 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $99.99 or more online at hbomax.com by 12/14/2021
The Fine Print
- Offer valid online at hbomax.com for annual subscription purchases.
- Purchases may not qualify if not billed directly by the merchant.
- For example, if you purchased your subscription through a third party device/digital platform, you may get billed by the party you signed up with, and not directly by the merchant.
Our Verdict
HBO Max with ads is $99.99 annually, without ads is $149.99. Kind of ridiculous pricing with ads but that is the world we live in I guess. This is a nice $25 saving. Best to try and stack this with Swagbucks if possible.

- Update 7/3/22: Deal is back and valid until Sep 15.
Signed up on July 20 and didn’t trigger. Also got 1% instead of 6% rewards as I should have with Amex Blue Cash Preferred for select U.S. streaming subscriptions. Amex customer service just stonewalling as usual.
Queue_Underflow If you only signed up three days ago, how do you know it didn’t trigger? I’d give it a few days after the charge actually posts. I don’t have the Preferred so don’t know how streaming credits but the online extra rewards for the Cash version can take up to a week to update to 3%.
Whenever I don’t get an immediate email from Amex about using an offer, the statement credit doesn’t post without manual intervention. And I have never seen rewards change after posting, but I suppose it’s possible.
I rarely get Amex offer redeemed emails anymore. I just check under the savings tab a couple days after posting.
I think it shows up in the Savings tab at the same the rewards are posted. Based on the fact that both the rewards and the offer are not working, I am guessing there was a change in how the charge is coded that Amex is not aware of.
Signed up for the annual ad package. Stacked it with $15 from Swagbucks and it also triggered the $5 off $50 for the cable and internet deal. Comes out to almost half off.
There’s a 40% off promo going on right now (ends 4/9/2024) on max.com for yearly subs:
w/ Ads: $69.99/year
Ad-free: $104.99/year
Ultimate Ad-free: $139.99/year
Should be able to stack Rakuten with $10-20 cashback depending on what plan you get.
William Charles Chuck
Can also earn 15% back in “Sam’s club cash”. You have to link your card in the sams club app.
Do they offer this a couple times a year? Really bummed I missed this
Any other rebate portal stacking?
I see Rakuten is offering $10 on Annual add plan. Rakuten + Amex makes it more than $30 back but not worth as previous topcashback stacking
Thanks for sharing DOC. Got it on my Gold today.
Wonder if this can stack with the Chase MyBonus. Subscribe to the $99/yr option on Chase, then upgrade for another $100/yr on Amex to get both rebates?
Please let us know if this worked.
Thank you. 😉

Doc’sCoupons.com for the win! I now know how to save a few bucks! Yay!
I think the offer deadline got extended to Nov 5.
I hate that they snuck in a rather substantial price hike vs. last year. Anyone who subscribed to a legacy annual advert-free plan around this time last year for $105 should take note that it will renew at $150 and only include 2 screens, 30 downloads and HD. If you want to retain 4K and Atmos and 4 screens you’ll need to upgrade to ultimate which is currently $200 annual. Does any family or group of 4 actually download 100 movies?
William Charles There are two other streaming offers from Amex.
Offer1 – Get 10% back as a statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to make purchases directly with select streaming services by 12/31/2023. (Limit of $15 back in total statement credits.) Got this on Green card.
Offer2 – Get a $3 statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to spend a minimum of $30 in one or more purchases directly with select streaming services by 12/31/2023. Limit of 3 statement credits (total of $9). Got this on Blue cash preferred card.
