If anyone happens to look at this page again, I enrolled in this offer and billed 2 months of YT premium to my card but no credit. Chat was mostly unhelpful, they stated: “It seems like these were not detected as eligible charges as these were made through Google. I checked the terms, and it says that the charge must be directly using the eligible card.
The charge shows as “GOOGLE *YOUTUBE G.CO/HELPPAY# CA”.
I explained I am subscribed directly through YouTube app, this is just how the charge appears since Google owns YouTube, there is no other way to pay. The rep couldn’t do anything and told me they submitted it for review and to check back in 15 business days.

Credit has not triggered for me either, shows up the same when paying directly on YouTube webpage. Let us know if you have any luck with the manual review

Wait until you have a kid who screams like crazy when there’s an ad. And your iPad is too old for some of latest ad blockers. Although do agree that VPN route is much much less

My kids watch ads because I choose not to give them the option. Don’t want them expecting premium for everything.

Fair enough. I ended up setting up Premium in a foreign country with a payment method from that country provided by P2 relative, and so far get $2/month which is not excessive

It’s a tough call. I figure Gen X is going to be the last generation to do better than their parents so trying very hard to set a bit lower expectations. Sadly, they’re going to be dealing with a world of less certainty on the financial front. We can only make our best effort.
