Our Verdict
Great deal if you have access to Google Pay.
Paid with virtual card in Google Wallet at Safeway on 09/26, no statement credit as of today.
How’d you do it at Safeway? You need to use virtual number, not mobile wallet / tap to pay. You would need to find a way to manually key in the virtual number if you’re trying to do this in store somewhere.
Both inside the wallet and on capital one site, the “virtual number” was checked
Did you tap to pay? Or did you key in the virtual number? I’m 99% sure tap to pay won’t work. You need to key in the virtual number that’s given when you activate the Chrome or Android autofill feature.
See here how I got the offer to work. I did get credit after about two weeks. And yes, the offer is confusing and not explained well.

I tapped to pay…
Anyone got the statement credit yet?
No. rules say up to 60 days. I made a purchase 9.14
Still waiting on my credit, made purchase September 20th.
I got credit today.
9/27 charged utility with virtual number
9/28 charge posted
10/12 $10 “GOOGLE VIRTUAL CARD CRED”
Nope, the statement containing all of these lines is still open (close 26th). I’ll add that P2 had the same offer, made the charge one day later than me, but she got the credit on the same day as me 10/12. So it seems maybe that batch it in some way.
I stalked your history and saw that you made a post saying you refilled Chic Fil A with GPay. I don’t think this is a qualifying transaction unless you used a VIRTUAL number (i.e. not your actual physical card number).
See my post here where I try to explain everything since it was very confusing:

Ok this is one of the most confusing pay features I have ever seen, but I think I figured it out.
First, this does not have anything to do with the mobile wallet / tap to pay feature within Google Pay. This is confusing because that has the same name. This is referring to Google Pay as an online payment method storage. When you add your card to your Google Pay payment methods, there is an extra option to enable virtual card numbers. That is what you are looking for.
Next, to use the virtual number, you need to use Chrome browser or Android device and use the payment autofill feature within the browser/device, NOT Google Pay as a checkout service. The website does not need to directly use Google Pay, it should work ANYWHERE you can type in a number and get the auto fill to show up in Chrome/Android. From the auto fill choices you should see one that says virtual number, that’s the one you want to select. It will auto fill a virtual number (different than your physical card number). Using this virtual number I believe is what will trigger this offer.
Also note that after you add your card to Google Pay, it seems to take some time for the virtual number to appear. I added my card and I could not find any virtual number and I was getting super confused. Then about 10-15 minutes later I got an email from Google Pay that my virtual card was ready and then it started showing up in the auto fill options. I was able to autofill the virtual number into my utility bill that doesn’t say anything about Google Pay, just the normal card number field.
Hope this helps somebody. This is actually way more convoluted that I even initially thought. Google really makes their whole Pay/Wallet system super confusing.
This is not Tap To Pay from Google Pay/Google Wallet offer, rather it is to use Google’s Virtual Card as described here: https://support.google.com/googlepay/answer/11234179
Got the offer. Spent $20.86 at KFC.
I did the $50 off a $50 purchase at Staples with a capital one credit card – I clicked the offer and they said to wait, I’m still waiting and now they won’t honor it. Capital one is the one major bank that I don’t trust with these obscure offers.
It took me two months for my credit to show up from that offer.
I got the $50 credit from the Staples purchase. I was a bit concerned because I never got the email saying I had used the offer, but I got the credit a couple of weeks ago.
I used my Capital One card.
The offer isn’t clear to me. Will a tap to pay with Google Pay phone app work?
Slide app takes Google pay. I’ll probably do that.
I got “Heads up: You have new alerts on CreditWise.”
I also got “To show you we value your business, we’d like to offer this credit card upgrade. You can swap your current card for a new one and refresh how you earn. No credit check. No application. Just claim your offer by November 05, 2023.”
But no additional benefits to consider it upgrade…
I received an email “spend at least $10 between 09/21/23 and 10/05/23 and get a credit of $10”. I’ve never used Google Pay though, got to figure out where I can use it…
Same with me. It appears that it can be used on EBay.
I’ve got the same promo. You can use G pay almost everywhere. I bought 10$ GC in grocery
