Our Verdict
The Capital One Venture X card currently has a 100,000 point bonus that most people will prefer. The advantage to this upgrade offer is that it will probably be easier to get approved for.

I won’t be accepting this offer. Besides the difficulty in meeting $4000 in minimum spend, I just don’t trust Capital One to actually approve me, even with this direct invitation… and even IF they “value” me as a customer.
I’ll probably close my Quicksilver, eventually. I still have their 360 Checking, just for the no-FTF international ATM withdrawals.
Anyone successfully product traded a cap1 card *other* than Venture to Venture X?

I am kicking myself for closing venture and 360 account 5 months ago. I hope BoA offers a premium card better than Venture X. My AF was only $59.
Can I assume if I get the offer that I’m preapproved? Or am I going to get 3 hard credit pulls and a rejection?
If you received the offer you are pre approved. They aren’t doing any hard pulls; you’ll receive an instant upgrade. This is the language in the email:
“We value you as a Capital One customer—that’s why we’re excited to offer you an opportunity to experience Venture X WITHOUT APPLYING. All you have to do is claim your offer to upgrade by December 02, 2021.”
I was on the verge of upgrading a couple weeks ago but held off at the last minute and received this offer last night. I have all 3 credit bureaus locked, and just clicked the button in the email with instant success. So no HP’s and a 5/24 spot is preserved for future use. Not a bad deal.
I don’t think I would have been approved for it otherwise. I took advantage of the CSP 100,000 UR’s offer in mid October, and also got a Barclay’s card around the same time. That’s too many recent inquiries/cards in a short period of time for Cap1. So this was the best option for me at this time.
and avoided $5,000 extra spend.
Not hard to find a card to spend $5k on that would use what you gained to get a better return, and probably still getting inquiries on fewer bureaus.

I got a targeted offer before from them – not an upgrade – and still got denied.
Can people post if they successfully upgraded with no problem if you got the targeted upgrade offer (just curious)?

I would definitely do this. I just downgraded my $30k savor card to venture one. i have two capital one cards I’ve totally outgrown. I would use venture X, but I’m not applying for another card.
