The Offer
Chase just sent out the following targeted email for the Freedom card various Chase credit cards:
- Update your income by June 30th and get a bonus 1,000 Ultimate Rewards points.
Our Verdict
Risk here is just getting a 1099 which some find to be a hassle to deal with. Hopefully they won’t send one out for those who got less than $600 during the year.
Hat tip to readers Gerald and coupons
nothing on any of my three chase cards.
Got this on one of my Vanilla Freedoms.
P2 got it for CFU.
Got it on my hyatt card.
Got the offer for my Southwest Priority card that was opened in April 2021… and yes, the language about a potential 1099 is there in the fine print.
I got this for 1000 UA miles on my Quest (although the actual link to update is still the common one for Chase)
No one has clarified this in any means: if you don’t get a 1099 do you have to pay taxes on it or not?
You are supposed to pay taxes on all income regardless of getting a 1099. However, If you get a 1099, the IRS gets a 1099. Make of that what you will.
At least when I had a checking, they sent a 1099 for the $5 for signing up for paperless….
Got this on my sapphire preferred.
I’ll update
In my email they called out that I hadn’t updated my income since April 2021 so maybe it’s a year to trigger this? Not sure
Subject of the email reads:
Just announced: fearthez, get 1,000 points when you update your income
Seems to be random, mine was updated July 2021 so less than a year
