Update 8/15/24: Deal is back for Staples.com only
The Offer
Check your Chase Offers to save the following deal:
- Earn 10% back on your Staples.com purchase, with a $10 back maximum.
- Others got 20%, same $10 maximum.
The Fine Print
- Offer valid one time only.
- Payment must be made directly with the merchant. Offer not valid on third-party services. Payment must be made on or before offer expiration date.
Our Verdict
I hate that Chase Offers don’t make it clear whether it’s a store offer or online offer. There is a ‘Shop Staples’ link which would indicate it works online, though we once had a data point from a similar offer that it does not work online. Should work in-store. Let us know your prior experiences.
I’m not sure if this offer is showing with any of the other banks – a number of banks use the same back end for these offers. This includes: Chase, Bank of America, Regions Bank, Suntrust Bank, BBVA, BB&T, PNC, Columbia Bank, Beneficial Bank, and Christian Community CU. You can read this post for more information.
Gift cards can be purchases from Staples, both in store and online, including Visa gift cards. This Chase Offer times well with the deal to get fee-free Visa gift cards at Staples stores. (The online deal has expired already.)

Us Bank 5% off up to $8, online only, up to $8 back, excludes third-party payment accounts and gift cards
Paypal 5% off
I didn’t get the cashback for Paypal with my US Bank card. The representative wasn’t able to manually apply the credit either.
Just as a data point, I bought a Visa GC online and paid the extra fee ($207.95) on Sat. 9/7 when expiration date of the Chase Staples offer was 9/8. I forgot about lag time of posting but lucked out. Payment posted 9/11 but they still gave me the $17 credit offer on 9/16 so looks like they go by date of purchase, not post date on this one. It took about a week to receive it USPS.
FWIW: I see Staples now isn’t permitting checkout of gift cards using PayPal as the payment method. It asks me to remove the items or enter a CC number to complete checkout.
It’s still allowing me to use PP to buy VGC.
I got that message when I bought Target gift cards.
The 10% credit for Chase posted, but I could not use the PayPal stack. NBD.
I was able to purchase a $300 VGC with Paypal and my US Bank card.
I think you guys may be comparing apples and oranges. Staples allows the use of Paypal to purchase physical gift cards sent through the mail, such as VGCs, but does not allow payment with Paypal for eGCs such as Target delivered by e-mail. Whether paying a $7.95 fee to get $4-6 in Paypal cashback is worthwhile obviously depends on your valuation of the fee-free eGCs. Davis progapanda Hodor JJ
Credit card cashback+credit card deal+PayPal cashback+Swagbucks cashback makes this profitable to pay part of my estimated taxes
looks like Paypal for this is now dead — “We do not accept PayPal as the payment method for purchases of gift and prepaid cards or AutoRestock items. Please use a credit card to complete your order.”
I was able to do it yesterday.
Activated Chase 10% offer for both Freedom Flex & Unlimited, activated PayPal’s 2% offer, activated and used SB’s Staples link for another 2%. Chase cashback posted for both cards, PayPal cb points are showing as pending.
8/6 – Bought a $207.95 VGC on each card, checked out using PayPal.
8/10 – Staples purchases post on Chase cards
8/14 – Fees & adjustments (cashback) $17 credited on both Chase cards. +416 points pending for each transaction on PayPal.
SB states using PayPal to checkout may cause offer to not track/pay out. I submitted a support ticket for each VGC purchase anyways with screenshots from my Staples account. They credited me for only 1 of 2 tickets.
What is SB?
Probably Swagbucks. Cashback portal
Yep. Typically on DoC SB = SwagBucks, MP = MyPoints, TCB = TopCashback
SB & MP are essentially identical cashback portals owned by the same company.
I found 10% back for Staples on my Chase Ink card so used pay pal to checkout with a $200 visa card.
Hope you activated PayPal’s offer too.
Yes I did.
Have it on several cards, but none in CICs
Back on US Bank AR as well.
I see the same offers reappear on the Chase cards that I didn’t redeem last time. The deal is back through Sep 8th.
Same, re-targeted for only the cards that I didn’t redeem. Didn’t show up for me on card where it was already used or wasn’t targeted last time.
It is showing as not available for GC purchase?
“Offer expires 8/8/2024. Offer only valid on purchases made directly with the merchant. Offer valid online only. Offer not valid on gift cards.”
You can read through the thread and see that it isn’t enforced. Of course, use at your own risk though the risk has shown to be minimal.
Do I recommend buying GCs for this offer? No!
Will I be buying GCs to get this offer? Yes!
Many of us have reported positive DPs for buying gc on Staples.com for the offer.
