[Targeted] Discover Card: Get 4% Extra Cashback On Up To $2,000 In Spend

The Offer

Check your email for the following targeted offer on Discover card:

  • Activate to earn an extra 3%/4% cashback on up to $2,000 spend.

Our Verdict

A few readers sent this one in. Two were for 4%, one was for 3%. There might be other versions as well. The deal is even better if you can meet the spend at drugstores and restaurants: if you have the 5% categories activated, you should end up getting 9% cashback total on those purchases.

2/7/24 Received an email for 2% on up to $1500 spend through 4/30/24.

I haven’t used any of my Q1 5% drug store. I guess I will max out 5% + 2% at CVS.

” Rewards are added to your Cashback Bonus account within two billing periods of the end of the promotion.”

I presume this means that the cash back amount in the posted transaction details does not account for the 4%.
I know the rotating categories 5% automatically are displayed there but this specific promotion doesn’t appear to be I think

I did not get the offer email, but I called in on Feb 3. The rep, who was a supervisor, signed me up for 3 % back on up to $1500 in spending over the next six months. Discover did not send a confirmation email, but when I called the next day, another rep confirmed that the promotion was on my account.

Well, shucks. I didn’t see anything in email, but called in and a rep told me I had the 3%/$1500 offer on one of my Discover cards, but the only way to activate it was through the link in the email. So even though she verified the offer was active on my card, I can’t take advantage of it because I didn’t get the email. 🙁 Has anyone else had this issue and been able to find a way around it?

Nothing yet however newer to the cash back card. Had others such as the Chrome (hey it was the only at the time secured product of theirs) and Miles (unlimited 3% after the first year on the latter card) and gotten zero percent interest followed by extra 3% in points back a ~3 months later when called in for offers and gotten both a few times over.

In October I received this same promo, but I had to ask for it. Maybe you could call in and get it.

I was lucky enough to receive this email with 4% extra cashback. I have a one-year-old Discover – first year’s double points will be awarded today, so I thought maybe it was related to that ending and them wanting me to keep up the spend. But maybe it is completely unrelated. I have several other 5% cashback cards in the categories I use most frequently (groceries, gas, internet, mobile, utilities) so I will hold back enough of the $2k spend for insurance and other bills for which I have no other way to get 5% cashback.

Watch your snail mail too. The middle of last year I got such an offer too (a total of 5% on $2000 of spend over a few months), but only in snail mail, not in email, even though Discover sends me emails about other things.

The only email I got was trying to promote identity protection.

I wonder if I started a chat or call customer support to mention these bonuses if they’ll look into my account to see if I qualify or have anything on it.
